Am I asking for it?

I live in Louisiana, tint laws are 35% on the front windows. I had my windows professionally tinted today and the only film they had was 30%. I normally would have waited until they had some 35% film, but I'm moving down to New Orleans tomorrow for college and I got a good deal here so going elsewhere wasn't a good option. The 30% doesn't look really dark, most people that get tint tickets get them for 5% or limo tint you know. I feel like you could still see whether I was wearing my seatbelt easily still. I was wondering if any police men here on the board think I'll have any problems? I feel like it might be one of those 72mph on the interstate things. Technically you're breaking the law, but not many cops will hassle you over it. The guy at the tint shop seemed to think my only problem would be getting an inspection sticker (Louisiana law btw) but I don't have to worry about that until July of '11
Any input would be great! Thanks guys!

Do they check yout tint during inspection?? If you "know a guy" maybe they won't care...

We used to go to a place (in MA of course) that was really lax with inspections....

I don't think you'd have an issue with cops b/c - I don't know what the difference LOOKS like between 35 and 30% but -- it doesn't seem like cops would be able to eyeball that....I think they'd only check if you were speeding and being a dick and they wanted to bust your chops or something -- and evne then it'd be an accidental find....

Yeah I wasn't too worried about the inspection anyway. I graduated high school with 2 guys than run 2 different oil changing places in my hometown and they also do inspections. I'm just worried about getting a ticket! I know its intentionally breaking the law and all, but its really not that much! haha

Window tint 5% too dark. Bust his chops? Discuss...

I never personally checked tint, but the motorcycle and bike officers did all the time...

The day I bought mine I had the tint put on in Shreveport, They told me I could go as dark as I want but they're not responsible. I told them I wanted as dark as I could get legally. It ended up being 50%front 35%backseat 20% rear window. The car is a dark color so I think it's plenty dark.

I think I read your post right... could you run into problems? Yes. Will you? Probably not. I know of plenty of people who get pulled over for tinted windows. How many have gotten tickets? Probably not much. But it gets them to talk to you and see if there's other violations more noteworthy. Plus, it also makes you a bigger viewing target on the road for other violations that you might otherwise not be caught for.

I plan on tinting mine. But I plan on sticking to the laws precisely. I don't want to give anyone a reason to throw a tint meter on there and give me a ticket.

You might want to check your local laws... some states say NO tint what so ever on the rear windshield. FYI.

In Florida the limit is 28% and I'm running 15% without any issues as of yet ... Just don't do anything stupid to draw attention to yourself and you should be just fine ...

FYI ... The state limits are suppose to be in conjunction with the factory tint, so in reality you are closer to 25% ...

if you go through a seat belt/brake tag check where cops set up on the road roll your windows down,I got a tint ticket already for this, thats the only reason he stopped me everthing else was good. That was with 20 on my truck so I got legal on the camaro, however the ticket was about $120.00,still cheaper than new tint.

I haven't tinted my side windows yet and I check my tire pressure once a week or so.
