Thumbs up Lone Star Camaro-Remembering 9/11 & Supporting Local Children

Sept 11th was not only a day of remembrance, but also a day to celebrate. Lone Star Camaro, a non-profit Camaro club based in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, teamed up with Classic Chevrolet, Grapevine to help raise money for the 9/11 Flight Crew Memorial in Grapevine, Texas.

This memorial is a bronze sculpture based on the design of Bryce Cameron Liston of Salt Lake City, Utah and sculpted by Dean Thompson. It is executed in the Grande style which is one and one half life size. The Memorial has five figures; two pilots, two flight attendants, and a child representing the traveling public. The figures are 14 feet high and, with the base, stand 18 feet tall. It is sited facing west on a compass rose. Engraved pavers encircle the site. The figures stand on a single block of white Texas limestone. The names of the crew members of the 9/11 flights are engraved on slabs of granite surrounding the base. It is truly beautiful and awe-inspiring. Thanks to the support of Lone Star Camaro’s members and guests, Eric Hall and the team over at Classic Chevrolet, Grapevine, we were proud to present a check for $3,500.00 to go towards new lighting for this awe-inspiring memorial.

With this donation, Lone Star Camaro was honored to have an engraved double size brick that read “Lone Star Camaro - Dedicated to those who lost their lives on 9/11/2001” permanently placed at the memorial site.

With nearly 75 Camaros, Lone Star Camaro then headed to Texas Motor Speedway for our 2nd time in less than a year for Laps for Charity. Speedway Children's Charities (SCC) remains true to the ideals it was founded upon in 1982: To care for children in educational, financial, social and medical need in order to help them lead productive lives. For a modest donation, Lone Star Camaro members and guests were able to take three laps around Texas Motor Speedway track in our Camaros. In addition, there were additional donations for pictures in Victory Lane, souvenir t-shirts and additional lap runs. Lone Star Camaro was able to raise nearly $3000.00 for Speedways Children’s Charities. For the 2nd time in SSC Laps for Charity history, Lone Star Camaro was the largest car group in attendance.

With the help of Classic Chevrolet, Lone Star Camaro, and Camaro enthusiasts from all over Texas, raised a combined total of nearly $6,500.00 for 2 great causes in 1 day.

We are proud to be of assistance to these wonderful organizations.

Lone Star Camaro

Awesome pictures, and I'm even in 3 of them!

Thank you to Classic Chevrolet for hosting the meet, providing lunch and somewhere to park and show off.

Thank you to Lone Star Camaro for the work you did making this happen, the event at the memorial and the generous donations from everyone involved.

It wasn't my first time at the TMS Laps for Charity, but it was my first time with a group of like minded enthusiasts!

Had a blast!

We wanted to thank everybody that came out yesterday to help support both charities. The Classic Chevrolet meet, 9/11 Flight Crew Memorial, and Speedway for children’s charity were all great turnouts. There was about 75 Camaros, with nearly 150 people in attendance, with approximately $6500 raised total. Thanks to all the Camaro enthusiast who traveled far to attend our events.

Special thanks to Eric and his team over at Classic Chevrolet for letting us take over their parking lot for a couple of hours. The guys at Classic were great and all the food and drinks were awesome!! Love that covered parking!!!
Also, big Thanks to Dean over at the 9/11 Flight Crew Memorial and his team for allowing us to be a part of his charity and for helping Lone Star Camaro become a permanent part of the Memorial site. Thanks also to Eric and his team at Classic Chevrolet and all the Lone Star members for helping reach our goal of $3500 for the lighting of the memorial. Thanks to Jonathon at Leo-DJ Music Service for assisting with our police escort by the Roanoke Police Department, as well as DJ’ing the event. A special shout-out to Arrow Lifts for supplying the scissor lift at both events, allowing us to capture some great images and memories. Thank you to my big brother Denny for his great photography.(Pictures on DVD coming soon). We don't want to forget JT 210's Mom & Dad and his sister (Hummingbird) for all their help at Classic.

Thank you to the Lone Star officers Jeff (JT 210), Alex (Adub4185), Jamie (Jparnapy) and Brandon (Chevy2tehBone) for coordinating, organizing, and helping things run smoothly. I’m proud of our team and members, we all came through for these great causes.

Sincerely,
Alan Pedini (Butterfingers)
President, Lone Star Camaro
