Got denied trying to get a new Camaro =(
Note: Thread from 2011. Update on page 2.
Hey everyone. Im new here and well I've always loved the Camaro since the first day I saw it. Well. this past weekend I decided to bring my dream to reality and tried to purchase my dream car. I went to the dealership and got denied. =( Mostly, because I am 20 years old and have a young credit history. Which sucks. I've been coming to this site for a while now and your posts keep me going. Maybe one day I will be able to own one, until then I will continue to read new post and save more money. Keep up the good job you guys. It keeps guys like me going. Have you tried having someone, parents co-sign not buy it for u but co-sign? My parents helped me out with my last car when i was 20 and that was a good way for me to build my credit and thats how i got this bad boy 4 yrs later.

Aim Lower...try getting a used car unless it was a used car. I waited until my 50s to get one FYI. Be patient....

Keep the same job... get a credit card, and start living off it! Everytime you have to spend money.. use the card! Whenever you get paid.. pay off the card. Give it five - six months and try again! Also.. don't apply for anymore credit.. it for some reason pulls your rating down.

Sucks man, at 19 I was fortunate enough to have my parents co sign for me. I have to admit if they didnt co sign and let me on there insurance there is no way I would be able to keep making payments. I would have had to settle for an import.
If you have the money to make your payments like I luckily do, go to your bank and get a credit card with like $500 limit and only spend per month what you can pay off right away. Give it a year or so and build your credit while saving money and maybe in a year youll be able to get the car and afford insurance as it tends to go down at 21. |

Yeah, I have a co-signer available (my brother) but I rather not get him involved. That would be my last resort.
I know I should aim lower, but it's difficult when it's the only car I want. I would hate to be paying for a car Im not happy driving. |

Don't wait until your 50's. Get one as soon as you can if you want a new one. Who knows how long they'll be building performance cars. I bought a new trans-am when I was 21 so it can be done if you want it bad enough.

Get what you want. If you later learn that you can't afford it... sell it!

That's what Im planning to do. Im going to shoot for a LS model and save another $2,000 and maybe with $4,000-$5,000 down, I would have enough to be able to pull the car out of the lot.
I hope. |

I'm 21. Have absolutely no credit. And bought a 2011 Camaro 2LT/RS. I put down 10k and got a 4.56% interest rate. It can be done you just need to get a good dealer and know exactly what you want. There a few dealers on this website that will deal with you. In my case... I went to Classic Chevrolet and Eric Hall gave me my deal.

Got my first one after college and had my first job. $4,000 down. Back in 85. Bought my current one last week. 2010, saved big and got big RS/SS2 Ground effects, heritage grill, Performance exhaust, inferno orange interior. Worth the wait! Good luck.
