Drag radials with stock drivetrain?

Ok, so I am looking at getting some dr's (oem size) on the car for a true street shootout race coming up, also installing spohn trailing arms this weekend. My question for the street/strip guys is - will my stock drivetrain hold up to this abuse with my current mods and hp? Or should I upgrade the diff and/or at least the axles? Thanks for the help!

With the LS3 axles would be a gd idea. If you were an L99 I would say don't worry about it but the M6 cars seem to be very hard on drivetrain equipment.

Yes, it will hold up fine. Work on getting it to hook.

Looking at getting the jre axles. Hopefully this can get me by. Really set on nitto 555r dr's to drive to and from track. this car isn't a daily driver. SuperchargedSS, are you running all that power on stock diff with a jre posi mod?

The only drivetrain mods you need to worry about now are those that help with wheelhop. Trailing arms and bushings.

Until you get into the 11's, you can't kill your diff or axles. I'm an L99, but really, with your mods, only thing that will hurt your drivetrain is bad wheelhop.

I have Nitto 555R's (305/45-18) going on this weekend for the drive to the track and some passes. I also have BMR rear trailing arms.

I have broke the output shaft on my tranny. I wouldn't trust the stock axles...Many have broke using launch control. I have also seen Richmond gears break.

Supercharged SS...What were you guy's working on during the LSX SHOOTOUT in STL??

After more te$ting than I care to think about we have come to the conclusion that the most important drag racing suspension modifications are sub-frame inserts or full bushes and toe links. Trailing arms are a distant distant third.

GM has a robust track validation program for their cars. The program is constantly improving as is the GM product. The one thing that the GM testing does not cover is after market tires. The stickier the tires, the better prepared the track the shorter the fuse on your driveline.

The cheapest and most overlooked drag strip modification is rear wheel alignment. The less negative camber you have at rest, the better your rear tires will bite as your 5th Gen squat-ts.

Pete, wouldn't you agree that for a 13-second car with his mods, spending a bunch of money is not required? He was asking about DRs on his car as it is.

Now, if he wants to make a 10-second car, all bets are off.

Guess I just think recommending axles, new diff, and other big-$$$ mods at this point is a bit of overkill.

My stock axles are holding up so far with Nitto 555's in the back and 12.66 runs. I'm easy on it off the line and only get wheel hop doing my wet burnout. I saw a guy break something on his first attemp down the track on a stock car. Don't just dump the clutch, something will break and you will not get traction that way anyways.

Thanks Guys! I am pretty certain the car is capable of mid 12's as it sits right now, with better traction. Just wanted to be cautious how hard I can push it until I can get all of the parts upgraded eventually. Looks like the cam install will have to wait awhile longer.......need to address the suspension and drivetrain at this point. I am working my way, slowly, towards an 11 sec street car.

Acow, that wasn't me. It's was an M6 Jannetty car. They kept blowing the stock rear, even with the Jannetty improvements. It has a 9" now. My car doesn't break, it just goes faster and faster!
