Question HUD Install - help one step at a time.

Well, I have the PDF form and such, but I'm still a little lost on how to remove some things and in what order to do it.

Right now I have the center console out.
The silver plastic strip across the dash, and the end dash panels.

Next?
Steering wheel?
Radio?

I've tried to use a screw driver and push in the holes by the steering wheel to pop off the air bag and I can't seem to do this correctly.

Am I to do one side at a time or both? Not sure if I am even pushing the right thing in to pop it off.

one side at a time works.
heres a pic i placed things pretty much as i took them off one at a time, from left to right.
this is a 4x8' sheet its all on.

when it was install time, i started from the right.
and soon it will look like this.

also, before the aribags are touched, remove airbag fuses, or disconnect negative from battery. also, wait 15 mins before unhooking them.

and when you thing you have the entire dash unbolted, and it wont come...
theres a hidden screw 3 inches behind the hole you cut for hud switch.

I thought I seen a picture of the airbag off of the steering wheel. . . Showed where and what to push in to get it out...

I can't seem to find this now... anyone know where it is?

Question... Do you have to mark the steering wheel to make sure it goes back on the correct way?

I'd have to imagine it would only go on one way. Could be wrong though

Has anyone done this with a 2011 1SS? I'm considering trying this but looks a bit over my head

guess my "fear" is not lining the teeth on the steering wheel and post in the car the same as it came out... 4-5 teeth off, now the steering wheel isn't centered with the wheels.

I guess you could try just parking with the steering wheel straight and wheels straight and then when your assembling it back together just put the steering wheel on straight again. I really have no clue but it would seem odd to make it where you can put your steering wheel on more than one way.

No problem. How did it feel to disassemble your baby like that??

it is just a set of teeth and the reverse on the wheel. think of a socket, it does not matter where the socket and bolt/nut line up, the will in several places.

I am going to put a few more miles on my vert (it has 148 as of this morning) before I pull the dash apart. I read that our cars may be prewired for this, but I will still have to disassemble the instrument bezel to check. I still need to find out exactly what I am looking for though.

Maybe paint a line across the teeth/wheel so when you put it back just line up the paint marks to make sure?

when the airbag is off. the steering wheel spline has a center mark.
i used a punch and marked the wheel adjacent to the factory mark,.
and you cant screw that up......
id be carefull to clock the wheel position censor correctly upon reinstall.

You might want to check out post #1135 of the following thread. And you do have to push the latch almost 3/8 of an inch, to get it to move the 1/8 inch where it is hooking on to the Air Bag.

Ok, a HUGE step that was overlooked in every one of the HUD install threads I've read was the removal of the PASSENGER airbag bolts.

My father and I spent 1.5 hours tugging on the dash... removing little screws that we didn't have to... then a phone call to Ofer and he put us straight in 5 minutes.

Taking the rest of the night off.. spending it with friends and family.. Will start back up on Monday.

I just cut the hole small and keep trimming till it fit. You can also pop out your headlamp switch, the hole is pretty much the same. Check some of the other threads, I know there was a pic of the hole cut out.

Need help... HUD is installed all is working well...but i have two issues.

1. The Onstar Light is on and RED. I hit the button and nothing happens.

2. When I use the dimmer for the lights in the car. . all it does is dim the Ambient light on the doors and the blue circle around the gauges. . NOT the gauges itself. I did this with out the 4 pack gauge cluster in. . But couldn't image that would make a difference at all.

update:

Onstar is working properly now. I had put the box in with the connections facing the passenger seat and the coax cables got bend thus making no connection to the box.

I swapped it around and all is well now.

Need to figure out the issue with the light dimmer now.
