Inflator kit or spare tire?

I already got my car with the inflator kit. But I complained to my dealer and he got me the spare tire kit for free with the spare tire. now he is telling me I have to return the inflator kit!

Which one should I keep?

I want to keep both! but I cant!

If he gave you the spare tire free, that's a score!
I paid $150 for mine when I ordered. (You do not get both when you order the spare tire option from the factory)
I'd give him the inflator kit and keep the spare. Or pay him for the inflater kit......but why would you need both?
Make sure you get a jack and lugwrench if that wasn't included with the deal.

He probably took the spare out of another car, so that car now needs the inflator. Otherwise whoever buys that car would be SOL...

You're still getting a good deal... It normally costs $150 to upgrade from the inflator to the spare.

Maybe I'm crazy but I would rather have the inflator kit. The reasons are simple. 99% of the time, you're not going to have the kind of damage that will require a full spare. The other reasons are that you risk your life jacking up the car in the dark (you're out there much longer messing with the logistics of changing out the spare) and you usually find yourself looking for solid ground to jack the car up. With the inflator, you just hook it up, turn it on and wait. No mess, no fuss.

You got a very good deal. I ordered my 2011 2LT mid May 2010, received early Aug. 2010. I researched the car on both the GM & Canada websites. Here in Canada the option "spare tire & jack" was $175. Seriously, I had no idea from the web info on both GM websites that only an inflator kit was standard, for some reason I thought spare tire option meant a full size tire (my stupid). About 6 weeks ago this spare tire issue came up on Camaro5, I rushed to parking garage and realized I had no spare tire and was pissed with myself, pissed with GM. Contacted my sales associate (great guy) who contacted parts dept. (great people) who rounded up all the stuff I need for a spare tire (tire & wheel, jack, wrench, bracket). That $175 GM option cost me $555 dollars to buy (includes Canadian taxes and labor to install in trunk). Now I have this big foam core thing with a heavy black box that is called an inflator kit stuffed in a bedroom closet.
Seems many people do not know they are driving around without a spare tire, and this might not be unique to GM or Camaro.
I just do not understand. Ever had a tire blowout at interstate speed? This "standard inflator kit" is not going to help you. Have a blowout on the interstate on a weekend, after you are towed, hope where you are towed you can find a tire that will fit your Camaro, that is if you did not damage the wheel! Without a spare tire and jack might as well check into a Motel 6, for 2-4 days, until you can get back on the road. Without a spare tire and jack, have a blowout with wheel damage in the middle of nowhere North America, on a weekend, expect total expenses (towing, motel, etc. plus loss travel time) to be close to expensive.
Anyone with AAA or CAA auto club? Curious if you call Auto Club to fix your flat, do they know how to use the standard Camaro inflator kit stuff? Or will Auto Club just need to tow you?

Auto insurance with free roadside assistance...look into that.

Also, you have an onstar system for such remote location disasters. The old fears displayed in commercials about being in the middle of a corn field somewhere with no one to talk to are no longer an issue. I saw an article today (yes, for real) where some overweight guy got lodged in his spiffy new Vette and had to use onstar to call for help. lol.

Ask yourself this, when was the last time you had a flat? Never mind 2 flats. Most times for me it's a slow leak from a nail. It's been a long time that I actually had a flat and had to change my tire on the side of the road.

Take the spare, of course. The inflator is good for punctures, not for a gash from road debris.

Onstar doesn't send someone to fix a screw in the tire do they? I have to take it somewhere, right?
