If it's ok to say Vette why is it wrong to say Maro?
First let me say I never say Maro..always Camaro. Though I wouldn't say anything to somebody who says Maro I think it is kind of a dumb thing to call a car.
All the time people just say Vette instead of Corvette and nobody seems to care. Let somebody say Maro and most people seem like that person automatically loses 10 IQ points. Why is that? Again I never use the word Maro but I do wonder why people think it's so bad. But then Raro on the other hand is just

"Maro" kinda reminds me of Super Mario whenever I hear it. I don't want to associate my car with a fate 4 foot tall plumber.

Indeed, "maro" sounds dumb. Just like "vert."
It's a Camaro. It's a convertible. Shortening names doesn't always work.

Vette just sounds cool, maro is a pinkish gooey substance in your bones and sounds lame.

I've seen vert a lot, but don't hear it said in person. Maro just sounds like a dumb name, not really any other way to explain it.

Using the term "Maro" is like saying "mac + cheese" instead of macaroni and cheese, or "my Mom" instead of "my mother" and sounding like Beaver Cleaver. Vette sounds cool, Maro sounds like Leave it to Beaver.
