Modified stock intake tube?

I am building my own cold air ... pretty crafty person and I am saving up for a cam so I dont want to spend the money on one yet! SO I got a cone filter for free, and I am building a heat sheild box with sheet metal and weather striping. My question is about the stock tube... the big box thing with the plastic vent tube in it hanging of the side( resonators )? I take it that is for sound control and emissions, would it be worth it to remove that and block the hole and remount that little vent tube? Any suggestions... I will post picks when I am done, going to start working on it this weekend! I am also going to do a back to back test at the track with the stock box at the track. Wish me luck!

Those resonators are there to quiet the incoming air. Removing them would not have a noticeable gain.

i thought of doing something similar. bought a CAI instead. eliminating those intake noise cancellation tubes (read mufflers) might add to the overall sound of the car. you could cut them off and epoxy a patch and paint black...being crafty i am sure you have already thought of this...

i had a cold air intake installed for a while, but took it off because it didnt have a heat shield box.

but since i actually like the look of the stock airbox,

i had thought about getting a tube that would fit from the intake to the box to eliminate those ugly appendages,

and then modify the inside of the stock box to take a cone filter.

hmmmmmmm, now that i typed it its got the gears in my head turnin LOL

There are a few companies that make a tube replacement and utilize the OEM box. While they do look and sound better, they don't have any HP gains over the stock setup.

X2. I was thinking SLP Blackwing, maybe. But it sounds like the idea was to spend no money, be crafty, and use what is already there. I'm not that crafty. Everytime I've tried to be crafty it cost me more than if I had purchased new.
