You can be so careful, then this..... (Update with pic).
It happened, two years and not a scratch on my car, then this.
Wild weather took the neighbors deck umbrella up over the house and onto my Camaro. Could have hit 5 other cars and it hits mine. Can you guys help me out? I have a $500 comp deductible and don't know if i should make a claim. How much would it cost to fix? Would the neighbors homeowners cover it? (they are good neighbors, I don't want to start anything). Will painless dent repair work if there is no access under the trunk lid? Some other thoughts: Will a spoiler cover it? or Filler and rally stripe it? Note, that long line is just a reflection, its just two 3 inch scuffs and a small dent. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Those scuffs should buff right off. The dent im not sure about. Get a quote on it from someone that does dent repair. Then mention it to your neighbor. Honestly he should pay for it. I know its an act of god but he should have secured his umbrella if the weather was bad.

If that was my umbrella, I would expect to be paying for the repair- most likely through homeowners insurance. You shouldn't have to pay for anything. Call up your car insurance first and tell them what happened and ask what you should be doing to get it fixed. And fix it properly- not by covering it up.

The dark green scuff will likely come out. Get yourself either some Meguiar's Ultimate Compound or Scratch X at wally world or Target and a microfiber. Rub the hell out of it. I'd be surprised if it didn't come off. The dent won't buff out. If you want it fixed, you're probably going to better off just paying for it rather than the ins company.

maybe a paintless dent repair place can handle it? but either way YOU shouldn't pay for it.

Nice, can they remove it from the top only? The trunk has an inner liner.

Just so you know. Homeowners insurance should cover it should you choose to do so.

Another option would be to look at a salvage yard for a trunk lid. I saw someone on this forum picked one up for under $300 IIRC. If the out-of-pocket expense is more than that, you/your neighbor could save some money.
And if it's out of the neighbor's pocket, and this is a good neighbor, it would be nice gesture to use a salvaged trunk lid - this is assuming you can find one that is in good shape. Good neighbors seem to be a rarity - and you can't change them easily, so it's always a good idea to do what you can within reason to keep the neighbor a good neighbor.

I should clarify. When I said it should buff out, I mean that a shop should have no problem buffing it out and then fixing the dent. Not saying the OP should be buffing and fixing dents in his driveway. |
