Say goodbye to my Synergy Green 2011

Let me state that I really went out of my way to buy this green car. My #1 color choice. I drove 3 hours one way to pick it up.

The saga:

About 2 months after I had it, I started to notice a large amount of stone chips on the nose (30-40+). It looked like I'd owned the car for 5-6 years.

I took it to the local Chevy dealer and of course, they couldn't fix it under warranty. I files a support issue with GM and they finally agreed to paint the nose.

Take the car in, they painted it (the body guy said the nose was improperly paint at the factory which is why the paint came off so easily), but one major issue. The paint didn't match. Close but the off by a couple shades.

I brought the dealer body guys out, they looked at it, and said it didn't match. They call in PPG, GM, & another paint supplier to look at it and they said it didn't match. They try some different formulas (5 of them) on a test panel. All different shades and none of them matched.

After 3months of trial & errors, the GM area rep said "oh well, there's nothing more he could do. You''l have to live with it." Ah, wrong! I filed a lemon law suit, wrote a very informative letter to the GM president, and in 48 hours, GM settles by taking in my Green 2011 and offering me any color 2012 (ordered to the same options as the 2011).

So goodbye Green Camaro & hello Black one.

Haven't decided if I'm gonna keep it as of yet. GM really didn't make a Chevy supporter by their actions. Love the car, not sold on the company ...

Wow, lemon it so quickly over paint? Lemon law is usually for serious issues.

Well... after reading similar incidents from other members, with other issues and filing lemon law, writing letters, etc. they were lucky to get any type of support, so for you to get a replacement vehicle over paint.... I would say you're fairly lucky and I think thats a company backing the product and satisfying a customer. Thats my .02

I'm more shocked/impressed that you:

1) Got a valid mailing address for the president of GM
2) He actually read your letter
3) The lawyers looked it over and made a decision in 48 hours

Not a fan??? Sounds like they tried pretty hard to me to make things right. I would have just expected them to repaint the whole car if they couldn't get it to match. Maybe I'd be upset with the service manager but not GM. Pretty damn good of GM to offer a whole new car if you ask me...but hey, some folks you just can't please.

I'd say GM actually did you right by offering you a new 2012 over paint chips. In this particular instance, they took care of the customer (you) better than I think I've ever heard.

Your letter must have been awfully persuasive.

The lemon law process is pretty long from what I remember. I had to deal with it in New Jersey years back, and it took forever. Mine was for a faulty fuel gauge in a Jeep Wrangler and after about 10 visits to the dealer and the entire lemon law process, all I got out of it was the corrected fuel gauge and one month's car payment back.

If you got a new car for an appearance issue then you hit a home run. If you got a decision in 48 hours on top of that, then you hit a grand slam.
