Angry UPDATED: Fed up

Alright, forgive me for the long and rambling post. I'm just so livid. Let me give you a little backstory.

My car had a rough life before she and I met. When they backed her off of the truck at the dealership, they ripped up the bumper cover and it had to be replaced.

Then, there was a nasty hail storm at the dealership which really messed her up-- they had to get a new hood, roof and trunk lid, and fix dents in the fenders.

When I bought her, they disclosed all of this to me. The car had just been painted; no worries. It looked good. Because they don't have an in house body shop they had to source it out but it looked alright. Fast-forward a few days later.

You may have seen my other thread about the hood issue; it got dye-back and was dull and there were circles showing up in it. So they sent it back to the guy who did it originally to have him fix it. For a couple of days it looked great.

Now the paint is lifting. He didn't strip it completely and repaint it, and the new paint got under the old paint and had some kind of reaction so there are huge circular blemishes all over the hood again. The other dealer told me it sometimes takes a couple of days of curing for this to show up which is why I didn't notice it right away when I picked up the car from the paint shop last week.

In addition, on the fenders you can see where the paintless dent repair was done (according to another Chevy dealer I went to for a second opinion) and it's causing cracks in the paint and bubbles in it.

And now the bumper cover, which was painted by someone else, has orange peel and there are places where dirt got under the primer so now it is starting to bubble and show spots on it, too. I'd take pics-- I've tried-- but with my iPhone it's just not showing up.

In any event, I'm absolutely freaking out over this. I've had these issues fixed-- some of them TWICE-- and my poor car is still not right. Do any of you have any advice? The dealer wants to send it back to the guy that painted it again. I don't want that @#$% GOON TOUCHING MY CAR AGAIN. Because he is OBVIOUSLY INCOMPETENT. What do I do? It's not warrantied by GM, obviously, because it isn't factory paint. And I can't afford to have someone else re-paint the entire damn front end of my BRAND NEW CAR.

I'm just sick over this Any advice, guys?

Damn when they mentioned all the damage that happened to the car before you took it, you should have declined the car and gotten another.

I wanted IBM; it's my absolute favorite color in the world. They gave me a decent deal (factory incentive) on it and it was the only color I wanted, and at that point the color was on hold because of the Tsunami and you couldn't order it. I couldn't find one anywhere within 500 miles and couldn't afford to have one shipped and I needed a car right then because my Tahoe had blown up.

Why did they send it offsite? Don't they have a paint/body shop at your dealership? All paint done at ours has a lifetime guarantee. If they can paint it at the dealership thats what I'd push for, if not I'd take it to someone that I knew was reputable. I'd contact GM Customer service before I did anything else.

I don't blame you for being riled up, or not wanting it to go back to the same guy for his third try at a paint job.

You know some lawyers, right?

I work for a lawyer. I'm a paralegal. This doesn't fall under lemon or GM warranty though, so I'm at the mercy of the dealer

They don't have their own bodyshop. I wish to hell they did

Wow, horrible luck.

So you tried all the suggested routes by the dealer and the car is still clearly not right. What does the dealer say at this point about having the entire car repainted?

Couldn't have had the dealer fix the original paint issues? Sounds like it's time for an out-of-pocket repaint :/

They don't have a body shop in house. Guess I need to edit the original post to mention that. As for out of pocket repaint... Can't afford it... It'd be like a thousand dollars or something wouldn't it?

He swears they are going to make it right. I'm waiting for a callback.

Why isn't it warranteed? The DEALER sent it out to someone else to have it painted, so it should still be covered. Talk to a GM rep, and see if you can take it to another dealership that DOES have their own paint shop to get it done right.

It would be expensive, but I'd lean toward taking it to a paint shop that has a good reputation for show quality paint.

Wow, that's terrible, sorry to hear.

So do they have anyone else that they work with? On the good side they are still working with you to get it repaired, if this guy isn't very good I'd think they wouldn't want to keep sending back either...?

This would be a great time to open a case with GM. You will be amazed at what happens when they start pestering the dealer instead of you.

You are owed a new paint job on this car.

Suuuux :( Guess all yo can do is take it back to your guy one more time. If he can't fix it, I'd say he owes you a paintjob somewhere else...
