Yes Ben, sadly it is. We just talked about this a couple days back!! I remember several years ago, for punishment my dad made me plastidip his entire assortment of pliers. Note, my father is a severe tool nut. Not only does he collect high end Mac and Snap-On, but he has a tendency to buy what he calls throw away tools, of which many are various grip type apparatus' I.E. pliers. Anyway, this was when plastidip was exactly what its name intended. Plastic you dip your shi*t in. Not this spray on stuff. It sucked then, and it sucks now. Maybe that's just the bad memories talking...

If you havent tried it you can't really knock it! It really is a good alternative to paint especially if you're on the fence about something especially whether flat black rims will look good on your car or not. Plasti-dip those bad boys on a weekend and see how you like them for a week or so for only ~$20 then you can decide if powder coating/paint etc is worth it.

As for putting plasti-dip on paint, I really don't see any negative effects. I've had my rear trunk panel blacked out for months (I believe it was on all winter and I peeled it off back in July) and the paint under neath is fine! After a wash and some waxing there are no marks or anything left behind.

Now I wouldn't go so far as to spray on rally stripes, but for nice accents and touches it does its job. I currently have my front bumper in front of the grill done as well as my tail light bezels. They hold up fine and look great. And its reversible for only $5 a can! How can you complain about that?

My bumper

It peels right off, easily!

The owner of that Camaro likes what he's done... if you don't that's your opinion, but don't go around knocking something that you haven't tried just because you don't like it. Sounds like you've actually got some personal issues hiding that you need to deal with, and not issues with Plasti-Dip itself.

I get so many complements on my car, not just from the plastidip, but because there is no other car out there like it. I could see you going grazy if I was going to plastididp it every year. but I plan on getting it just the way I want it then having it painted.

I sat and talked to a guy friday night out side the store for over 20 min, just on how cool my car looked and if I was a painter myself, (no I'm not btw) he owned a green one and wanted me to do stuff to it.

he liked how clean the lines were and asked all sorts of questions.

and yes I love my car and what it has become, so does my wife. my boy hates it because I get so much more looks then he does.

here's another pic for you guys.

I never thought that one day I would be the poster child for plastidip! Score one point for me!
