Watkins Glen Opening weekend UC5 on track tally

Mark (mclark10) has reserved a spot for on track laps at 11:30 am on April 22. I was hoping to drum up a little more interest for our Upstate C5 members to participate! This is an informal event that costs $25 (payable at the track, no advance) for 3 paced laps or if you buy 2 sets you get 3 more laps free for a total of 9 laps. The Glen does not guarentee that you'll get all 9 in 1 session though but if we had enough guys to do the 9 maybe we'd have a better chance...IDK?

If interested we'll gather at 10:30 probably at gate 2 for our 11:30 track time. Please post to this thread if interested and how many laps you're gonna do. Sounds like a real blast to me! I'm excited to excersise my new coilovers! Looking forward to seeing my UC5 peeps!

Good Morning!

I am very excited that it is event week for us FINALLY here at Watkins Glen International. The weather man says we will have cloudy cool temperatures – (which means potential for wet stuff)! I will keep my fingers crossed! As you know, road course conditions are rain or shine – and so will on track activity be this weekend regardless of the weather.



This email should serve as your RSVP confirmation. As the weekend draws closer – please share with me a more accurate car count so we can plan ahead of time for your arrival. Attached is a map and rules that each of your members will receive when they arrive with a few rules and regulations I thought might come in handy – and last here are a few housekeeping notes for your arrival -



SATURDAY ARRIVAL: All Groups please use Gate 3 for entering the facility. You will be asked to sign a waiver – any adults with children or passengers under 18 will need to sign a minor waiver for them.



SUNDAY ARRIVAL: All Groups please use Gate 2



Upon Arrival – follow signs to Group Paddock located on the south side of NASCAR garages.



After you purchase your laps at the Garage Entrance, you will be directed to the staging lanes. Please try to stay together and for groups larger than 20 cars - be prepared to stage in 2 lanes side by side, based on room and availability.



Following your laps – if you do not plan to leave the facility right away – we have arranged a small corral area for you to park on the south side of the NASCAR garages – starting at the fuel pumps and following the fence line back to the paddock. We have also arranged the Turn 10 grandstands to be open for track lap viewing – you are welcome to go over there and park as well.

Thanks Mark! I'll let you know Thursday morning. The weather report looks worse every time I check it. Looks like rain Saturday through Tuesday in the Glen area!

I know they run rain or shine but I'd rather not go if raining! I'm just not ready to get Big Red all shi!!ed up yet! Although I'm chompin' at the bit to get out on the course!

That's because you're using the Weather Channel. They are always glass-half-empty because it's a group of meteorologists sitting around a studio in Atlanta, GA looking at models. With crappy forecasts they look like heroes when it actually turns out better. WSTM out of Syracuse has meteorologists who get up off their ass from in front of the model monitors and sometimes look out the window. They did show really crappy rain days for both Sat & Sun, but now according to them, Sunday has improved. Their digital cable weather info channel also shows the 7 day for the surrounding communities, including Penn Yan. I'll keep tabs and let's keep our fingers crossed! All that being said, I'll bring my raincoat.

Anyway, just heard from Mike Evranian at the track. He's says, "Let the Ferrari owners be the crybabies!"

I haven't jumped in here for this because I have a neice's birthday party so don't count me in - BUT - as it gets closer I'm really wanting to find a way to make it, so don't be too surprised if I show up Sunday. I'd have to fly out of there right after to try to make the party on time. Any idea /guess as to when we'd get done?

I don't think track time starts until 10:30. Since we go at 11:30 hopefully the delays won't have piled up too high, so I'm hoping to be done by noon for whomever goes 9 laps. If it's raining it will take longer. I would plan on being there until at least 12:30..... and, the damn WSTM weatherman looked out the window and went bipoler on his last forecast. Crappy day for all, but it's still not set in stone. Hopefully we''ll have a dry track for our run. Flashpoint, try to let me know Thurs AM if you can.
