I wonder why production was so low last month? Gearing up the the 2013 model year to start production?

Slow decline due to continued carryover of LS3/L99? The General needs to freshen it up a bit if they want trade-up sales!

Still sold more Camaros in the last year, and the last three years, than Mustang. Still winning.

It has everything to do with incentives. There are a lot of great deals out there right now for the GT's... it's a good time to buy one.
2012 Mustang GT $3,000 2013 Mustang $1,000 2012 Camaro $0 |

Ford has stepped up
Actually, Ford has really stepped up their product. HID and sequential LED turn signals are standard on all trims, HID are optional on Camaro, and no option for read LED's. Recaro racing seats are available on Ford, where GM doesn't even offer them. Mostly Ford has learned to make most of the really desirable options available across all trims, whereas they used to reserve the best options for the premium trim levels. The fact that you couldn't get bluetooth or USB on a Mustang GT was insane.
The aggressive use of factory to dealer incentives also don't hurt. Either way, these two cars are priced in the same range so if Ford is giving more bang for the buck it's going to be a tough sell for Chevy. Unless they step up w/ something other than My Link, frameless RVM and Navigation I doubt they'll be outselling their chief rival the rest of this year or for 2013.

Ford has indeed stepped it up, I think they are making sure they take back the sales lead with incentives. They can't be making nearly as much profit per unit as the Camaro, can it?

They use the incentives to keep factory production at a certain level. It's a bad habit. Customers will start to expect discounts. |

Interesting to see the Challenger has been on a very slow, progressive sales increase since 2009. In comparison, the Mustang/Camaro have been on a seasonal roller coaster. Makes you wonder if Dodge has the best sales strategy...

You may also want to look at the percentage of their units put in fleet (primarily daily rental) - I recall a number this past year at roughly 35!

Also Ford has more advertising going on I cant remember the last time I saw a Gen5 camaro Ad. on tv. The only Camaro I saw was a 69 in an ad for viagra it looked nice I bet it pissed off mustang lovers. Yet with little or no advertising Gen5 camaros are out selling mustang. Chevy runs deep.

Even with $3,000 off MSRP on the 2013 Mustang GT I paid almost $2,000 less for my Camaro 2SS/RS.

Now, if the next gen 'stang has an IRS as rumored, produces similar power while weighing 500 lbs less and priced in the same range and still has more content.... well, as I stated Chevy is going to have a tough sell to the general public who aren't F-body enthusiasts.... and that's all I'm saying.

The Ford 5.0 is a good Motor and is starting to shine. The Chevy 6.2 is good also but rumors are flying that Chevy is looking to downsize the base motor with a reworked 5.3 and tagging it a 327. The 5.3 is lighter can be made easily into a powerhouse, easily supercharge and turbo charged and is a proven maintenance free performer. The 5.3 was used in a variety of car from the 90s up to 2005 but was nowhere near setup to its capabilities. The SS Monte Carlo used this until the car was discontinued. I suspect the Gen 6 camaro which is to be smaller and lighter will use this as the base V8. These 5.3 motors are already being sold as crate motors for racing
