2016 might not be a 6 Gen.

I was thinking back last night to all of the previous camaro models. The fourth Gen had two body styles. The ones produced in the 90`s had different light and a slightly sharper nose point. then in the the 200? models the gave it a slight face lift. But the overall car was very similar. I believe the same thing happend with the second gen cars as well im not sure what years but i know that they changed the front clip at some point...

So everyone is always speculating that there will be a whole new car comming out for 2016. I think that if there has been such a great sucess with the current body style they will probably not revamp the whole thing. This is just my 2 cents...

Next gen Mustang is due mid-decade. GM isn't going to let that go unchecked.

This isn't the 80s and 90s anymore.

Depends on just how much different the next gen Mustang really is, the Stang could end up being a turd on wheel's. Would GM really want to follow suit or keep with a full update redesign on what they have now. Definitely don't think you'll see like only a front fascia update like the 4th gens, but look at how Ford has evolved the 2005 design Mustang from what it was then in 2005 to what it is now for 2013. Same body, same basic interior, just well updated through the model years to keep the car "new".

The next-gen Mustang will be an extensive redesign. It's going to be a global car.

AKA look more like the imported designs. A sleeker apperance seems to be the way everyone is going.

GM dont care about what Ford does or they would be building Camaros that could beat mustangs already.

So what makes it a new generation car? The exterior body style or the platform it's built on?

Would a slightly changed 5th gen body style on an Alpha platform be considered a 6th gen?

GM and Ford have both been pretty clear that we will see all new cars mid decade. Not a refresh but new cars from the ground up.

Yes.

It would be completely different car on a new platform so yes that is definitely a new generation...even if it looks similar.

I can't wait to see these next gen Mustangs/Camaros/Challenger/Baracuda

GM already did that. Then Ford came out with the 5.0L.

I'd bet that the 6th gen Camaro dominates the Mustang again.

The Camaro is getting a new front and rear end and new interior for model year 2014 but its the same car. I have friends in high places and learned this last week. I am still advised that 2016 is a model change scheduled.
