Almost a dead heat between the Camaro and Mustang. But the Camaro wins by a nose...it will be interesting this year.

You have to feel bad for the challenger, it just doesn't stand a chance! I mean, I like it but seriously, what it needs is to lose 300lbs, make 450 hp in R/T trim (~600 for SRT8), have a better steering wheel, upgraded rolls bars, better tires, better steering feel, less cheap interior plastics, smaller, lighter seats, and bigger better brakes, maybe the same brembo's as on the SS. There's the recipe, haha, never going to happen though!

Just for grins - maybe the OP can add the figures in below just to see how much of a difference it made.

What I don't get is why chevy doesn't advertise and recertify the SAE hp of the '13s with electric steering and the models with the NPP exhaust. It might spur a few sales. Heck I used to buy a new z28 every year in the '80s and a few improvements here and there would have me buying a new one.

Because they would:

1. Have to pay for the SAE recertification testing

2. It would amount to all of maybe 10-15 RWHP

Camaro outsells Mustang for 2012

http://www.foxnews.com/leisure/2013/...ntcmp=features
Drag races are often won by the slimmest of margins, and the muscle car sales race was no different last year.
After blowing it away by over 18,000 units in 2011, the Chevrolet Camaro outsold the Ford Mustang by the slimmest of margins in 2012, with the final tally standing at 84,391 vs. 82,995.
The ‘Stang picked up sales thanks to a mild redesign and the addition of a 202 mph Shelby GT500 to the lineup, but it still wasn’t enough to topple the retro-futuristic fifth generation Camaro, which has been the top dog since returning for the 2010 model year.
As for the only other muscle machine on the market, the Dodge Challenger, well, it looks like there is a reason that drag races are between two cars. Dodge was only able to move 43,110 of them in 2012.

They can knock the dodge all they want but if they look at the numbers the Challengers have been steadily increasing since the beginning.

Interesting 1964 to present graph. Could the Mustang and F-150 alone have saved Ford from GM's fate?

Anyone else notice that in 2006, the year they announced the Camaro was returning after the concept Camaro was shown Mustang sales took a nosedive and finally leveled out in 2009 when the Camaro was released?

it's not a huge trend but the lines are going to wrong way for the Camaro and the right way for the Stang. I supposed a newer model does that.

Can't see what people see in the Stang though. Ugly.

With the addition of the 1le, and the upgrades to the interior, I think they might keep that lead.

I honestly don't understand why they include the Challenger in the comparison. The Challenger obviously isn't meant for a mass production like the Camaro and Mustang. I mean it's not like Chrysler is building 100,000 units and only selling 45,000 of them. Yes it's the same type of car, but production numbers wise it's not even in the same league. It'd be like comparing production numbers of the Corvette versus the Viper or Prowler... lower, limited production vehicles. Comparing price, performance, etc makes sense... but production numbers not so much.

As much as I dislike Mustangs in general, I think they did a really good job with the 2013 models. I really like the headlights and overall look of the car. Plus the 5.0 is a pretty potent motor.

Let's face it - we NEED the 6th gen or a face lift at the very least. With the concept being unveiled in 2006, the 5th gen is already a 7 year old car even though it's only been in production since 2010 model year. Since the CAW said they need a new production line at Oshawa by late 2015, early 2016 due to the Camaro moving production to Lansing, it basically confirms the 6th gen is going to be due around that point... I wonder what changes we'll see for the 5th gen between now and then.

Mustang also had a lot of different incentives while the Camaro had very little.

i wonder why the Camaro and Firebird had the their best sales in 1979 ? just sems like a odd year for the most units sold ? wasn't the economy also bad around that time ?
