Square tire setup

Anybody done a square tire setup similar to the 1le? I do a lot of road course tracking and just looking for options and thoughts on the setup. Not sure if the ZL1 will like smaller tires out back. But im thinking it might help with understeer.

With correct wheel offset and size, I don't think there should be any issues. I run 295 squared all around 10.1" in width compared to the stock rear at 11.5". The car does feel more balanced. Less understeer squeal for sure.

I dropped 2.7 seconds in lap time in track condition of 8 degree C compared to oem goodyears 285/305 with 25 C.

theres no benefit to reducing your rear tire size i would recommend 295/315
you may get the illusion of a more balanced car, but you would just be giving up rear end traction and make your car more prone to oversteer, the real benefit would come from improved front end traction but theres no reason to reduce the rear end traction

^ I won't recommend that unless you want your tires to stick out quite abit.

295 Michelin PSS is a good size for front tires.

The ZL1 suspension was tuned to the staggered, not sure how a square setup will effect it.

Re: fitting 305s in front-
By dialing in some negative camber in front, the car should gain some room outboard for wider wheel/tire. For those that have max'd out negative camber in front (-2 or -2.5?) how much room is left inboard at that point?
If there's still a 1/4" inboard, the camber should add 1/4" more room outboard, suggesting at least a 295 could fit on a 10.5" wheel without sticking out further (at the top) than stock. If you can get there, a 305 should be possible?

The car can get -3 with the stock adjusters?
What wheel width and offset or backspace did Pete use with the 305 19s?

+1
The only benefit to putting on a narrower tire is the ability to rotatate the tires. Unless you can get a much stickier tread compound only in the narrow size.

My track tires wear slightly faster in the rear and way faster on the right side of the car due to the dominant direction of track flow. I can rotate the tires left to right and get good wear out of all of the tires. I have just resigned that if I'm going to track the car I'm going to have to buy a lot of tire and brake parts. I'm 295 front and 315 rear. It works pretty well. I understeer if I brake to late and oversteer if I get on the throttle to early. It is very controllable.

My camber is maxed out front. Reads -2.0 degrees both sides. Seems thats as far as the oem will allow

Yeah, thats inline with what I've seen elsewhere. At that setting, how much room remains inboard between the wheel/tire and strut? Can you fit a finger or only a credit card?
You have 5-7mm more clearance outboard now, add that to remaining inboard clearance, plus whatever factory outboard clearance was provided.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead.
Had a chance to measure wheel to strut clearance with maxed out camber(-2.0) at roughly 10mm.
Aint much, looks like anyone wanting larger front wheels has to go out, no room left inboard. Makes sense when you compare the z28 sizes and offsets
