DETROIT - Fans of the new Camaro and the blockbuster TRANSFORMERS movies can now combine their love of the car and the films with the Chevrolet Camaro TRANSFORMERS Special Edition announced today at Comic-Con in San Diego.

"When the first TRANSFORMERS movie was setting box office records, we had countless customers asking to purchase the 'BUMBLEBEE' Camaro," said Karen Rafferty, product marketing director, Chevrolet. "Now, they can buy one with the new Camaro TRANSFORMERS Special Edition. Streets all over North America will be buzzing in no time."

Features such as an EPA-rated 29 highway mpg on the V6-powered Camaro, Bluetooth phone connectivity, USB connectivity, XM Satellite Radio and OnStar combined with TRANSFORMERS design cues add to the car’s status as a 21st century sports car.

“Hasbro is thrilled to team up with Chevrolet and excited to see the Camaro TRANSFORMERS Special Edition come to market for our fans to enjoy,” said Samantha Lomow, Global Brand Leader for TRANSFORMERS at Hasbro. “The yellow Camaro with the black stripes has become so iconic and closely associated with the BUMBLEBEE character that this edition was a natural fit for both companies.”

While the aggressive styling of the Camaro is unmistakable, true TRANSFORMERS fans will notice some of the unique, but subtle features of the Camaro TRANSFORMERS Special Edition.

The 2010 Chevrolet Camaro TRANSFORMERS Special Edition includes the following:

Dealers are now taking orders for this car. Customers can order the TRANSFORMERS Special Edition as either a Rally Yellow LT or SS model. The optional RS appearance package can also be added.

The V6-powered Camaro uses a 3.6L engine with variable valve timing to optimize performance and fuel economy. It is SAE-certified at 304 horsepower (227 kW) and 273 lb.-ft. of torque (370 Nm). A six-speed manual transmission is standard with the 3.6L engine; a Hydra-Matic 6L50 electronically controlled six-speed automatic, with TAPshift control, is available.

The high-performance Camaro SS is equipped with a powerful 6.2L V-8, with a choice of a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. Manual transmission-equipped models receive the LS3 engine, SAE-certified at 426 horsepower (318 kW) and 420 lb.-ft. of torque (569 Nm). It is paired with a TR6060 six-speed transmission.

A new, L99 V-8 engine is used on automatic transmission-equipped SS models. It is based on the LS3, but also includes GM’s fuel-saving Active Fuel Management feature. It is SAE-certified at 400 horsepower (298 kW) and 410 lb.-ft. of torque (556 Nm). It is matched with a Hydra-Matic 6L80 six-speed transmission that helps delivers an EPA-estimated 25 mpg on the highway.

Im thinking then if you wanted this simpy order a RY 2SS and be creative with some badges and stickers easily available on ebay. If you can get the centre console from GM then job done.

I think the auotobot badges are ok and are subtle enough but the transformers decal on the hood stripes makes it look nothing more than a comic strip picture. For a few bucks you could esaily get these badges from ebay and to the driver by they would know no different.

Well, at least it is official now. Wish it was more authentic or at least limited production and it would be worth it I guess. Disappointed that the stripes aren't even right. $995 isn't too bad I guess in the scheme of "mass produced" limited production vehicles. Someone has to pay for all the programming for the machines that turns out the badges, stripes and stitching.

If you are going to do a Transfomers car, do it right and make it Sunrise Yellow with full length "Bumblebee" stripes. I know, I know...it costs more. Well, guess we just kind of need to figure that one out, don't we.

So will GM be selling the genuine badges and sill plates as accessories for people who already have the yellow SS, I give it to the end of the week before you can buy the sill plates, badges and transformer decals on the aftermarket

Really? GM should have issued an identicle version of bumblebee as the bumblebee edition. I know that it's what the "future" Z28 is suppose to look like, but no hood, bo bumblebeestripes, and cheap decals for an extra $1000. It reminds me of a childs toy which it shouldn't. GM really screwed up with this one in my opinion as they had the potential to put out something really great and they wasted it on this?

I'm actually kinda considering ordering a Camaro, having it painted Sunrise Yellow, and putting on black bumblebee stripes....blacking out the bowtie with a red outline...idk just a thought lol

But I would never pay an extra 1000 for this. But yeah...the ordinary consumer who doesn't go on forums such as these would think they are getting some insanely special product with the "Bumblebee Special Edition"

Those transformer badges on the side of the car are going to get stolen big time. If you have one of these and park it anywhere, don't be surprised to come out and find the badges missing.

Unfortunately this just looks like a Transformers merchandising gimmick, rather than a genuine replica of Bumblebee. They should have done a real replica as far as body panels and color; then it would be cool.

agree completely, plus wasn't the color in the actual movie more of a blend between an orange and yellow? like a sunset yellow almost? I might be making that up

Is it really? I asked my dealer about the Z28 and he said there really won't be any exterior changes....

no way. When you buy a Camaro, make it a Camaro to be proud of not embarrased.
If you want a transformer car buy the plastic Hasbro one and do with it what you please.
