Friday At The Track, May 2nd
I just registered my wife and I for Friday At The Track on May 2nd. This will be our second FATT and it will be on their Summit Point Circuit. I'll be there in my 2010 Camaro SS and my wife will be in her Fiat 500 Abarth. If anyone else is going, please feel free to say Hi. My license plate reads LL4M4 and the Abarth is kinda hard to miss
Here's my review of our first track experience from last October: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=322800 If you are planning/thinking about attending, please respond to this thread. See you in the paddock, Michael Update of our track day posted at the end of this thread.

I made a post about FATT in another thread. I was looking out to see if we could get a group for one of the track days. I have never been to the track before, and was planning to do so this coming season.

One thing I'd like to mention to anyone who is doing this for the first time is that between the cost of the helmet, FATT entry fee, upgraded brake pads and brake fluid, it cost me about $1,000. You can certainly save money by renting the helmet and use your stock brake pads and fluid, but be prepared to endure someone else's helmet sweat and possibly have to deal with brake heat issues. Be sure to do your due diligence preparing for the track day. This forum has been a great resource for that.

Summit Point FATT recap:
FATT on May 2nd was our (my wife and I) second time there. The first time it was raining all day. This time the weather was awesome, which was good and bad because it meant that we were pushing our cars harder than ever before. I drove the Camaro so hard during the last 20 minute session that the brake fluid started to boil, even with DOT4 fluid and HP+ pads, which is not a good feeling. Luckily it happened right after the checkered flag which ended the session and started the cooldown lap. My oil temp was high too (good thing I have the extra gauges in the Camaro that shows that stuff). We also met a lot of nice people there. One of them was another Abarth fanatic so we had him park in our paddock. I'm also a huge Abarth fan so it was cool being able to talk with him about what he's done to his car, giving us ideas as to what to modify on our Abarth. Since my wife's camera doesn't have an external mic, there's a ton of wind noise so it's best to just turn down the volume. Otherwise, the crackling sound is a bit irritating. I ran an external mic through my trunk and taped it to the back side of my bumper, so turn it up for some ground pounding American thunder! Camaro, last session. http://youtu.be/xSubEUkPoBY View of the Abarth, from the grandstands, turns 4 through 8. http://youtu.be/6ODhJexo5b4 Abarth in car, end of 4th session (turn it down a bit). http://youtu.be/rfBbRNu_WhI Flyby of the Camaro recorded on my wife's iPhone. http://youtu.be/bHVDo6nZN10 I would like to point out that the aggressiveness of some of the other student drivers there was getting on my nerves. I mentioned this to my instructor and he did say that it's always an issue trying to reign in overly aggressive students. That's a nice way of putting it. Having other drivers so close to my rear bumper through the technical part of the track that I was concerned about getting rear ended was really pissing me off. The Porsches seemed to be the worst offenders. So, for anyone who reads this and tracks their car, don't give Camaro owners a bad name by driving like a jerk on the track. Special thanks to Chris aka LostPony for the great classroom instruction and running the show. Shake n' Bake, Michael, #127, Black 2010 SS

Looks like you and your wife had a great day! It was nice to meet you in person. I think this was the first time in a very long time that Camaros outnumbered Mustangs at the track!
Couple tips for you: When exiting turn 9, the turn before the bridge, look toward the corner station beyond the bridge. As you pass under the bridge you should be right in the middle of the road, you wer lined up all the way to the right. This makes the fast entry into 10 more difficult as it is more abrupt. So try to stay in the middle as you pass under the bridge and the track will come back to you and make turn in easier. At turn 3, the first left turn, ease over to the right a little. Not quite to track edge, but just a little bit so again you don't have to turn as sharp to make the turn. The track itself gently goes right as you near the first of the crossover roads, so if you mimick that gentle flow to the right, 3 becomes much faster on exit. I'll see you again soon at the track!

I'll take a look at my video again with your hints in mind so I can visualize it better. Turn 3 messes me up because I don't want to be turning to follow the contour of the edge of the road right when I start to brake. That and figuring out where I should start braking and then how slow I should be going before turning in is one of my bigger challenges.
Of course our biggest issue is saving up enough money to pay for our next track day!
