oem paint wet sanding
The oem paint comes with orange peel and ive heard you shouldnt wet sand and buff original paint, is that correct? I want to have that smooth shiny paintjob on my 2014 camaro ss

You can but you better be a very skilled wet sander. No margin for error with this paint.
I highly recommend learning to live with the very minimal orange peel. Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk

+1. The clear on these cars is extremely thin. If you aren't extremely careful and extremely skilled you will go right through it and into the base coat. The reason that body shops can wet sand so much is that the aftermarket paint jobs are quite a bit thicker.

Its just not worth it on a factory paint job. All cars, regardless of what you paid or who built it have orange peel... from a ferrari all the way down to a kia... orangepeel comes standard.
I say learn to live with it and if you want to get to that point someday, have it resprayed with a high quality aftermarket paint job and spend the money (or time) to sand it down to perfection. |

Thanks for the reply guys, the main reason I wanted that glossy no orange peel finish is bc I saw the zl1 presentation piks and its super glossy and no orange peel, I mean I know they do that to present the car but I figured id do a similar job on my car

Try going to a custom paint shop - they'll be able to steer you in the right direction. Factory paint sucks on most cars - I had mine repainted and it's a huge difference!

33 years with GM, 25 of those were in the paint repair shop...my suggestion is to leave it alone. JMO

I dont know much bout auto paint, but im thinking throwing a clear on top and wet sanding it? Maybe thatll eliminate the thin clear coat layer?

Unless it's a show car that's kept in a bubble, living with a level of orange peel is just part of the deal with a factory vehicle.
As mentioned, wetsanding isn't for amateurs and requires the proper tools and a TON of time/skill. It can go badly in a hurry. |

I just got a black 14 zl1, and I'm having it wet sanded. The orange peel is too much for me. I'm having it done by autolavish. They said my oem paint job is unusually thick. It is not cheap.

I like to think my slight orange peel makes the rock chips harder to see
But I really don't have much orange peel to be honest. You can see a little waviness in this pic (it's my roof reflecting the sky and houses). I've never had a car with zero orange peel:

Wow. I thought that was an actual picture, not a reflection.
