ZL1 Weld RT-S 17" Set-up Info & Pics 28" Skinnies & 28" M&H Rears

17" Weld RT-S 71 Drag Pack-Black

Wheels -Rears 17x10 7.2 back spacing
-Fronts 17x5 2.2 back spacing

Using Gorilla Locking lugs- Smaller style in black... I have the Gorilla OEM size and they would work but are extremely tight and a pain to install & remove. The stock lugs are the same way.

04-09-14 UPDATE! ok, most of you know I found a place I was VERY happy with purchasing a complete set at a what I believe the best price out there including the group buys... That was on Sunday. Tires arrived today and here they are. Couldn't help but weigh them. Not an official scale, but pretty close. The New MT front Sportsman S/R Radial 28x6.00R17's aren't that light, but everyone seems to be really happy with them.. and since I wont see the track but maybe a couple times I think for the street I should be happy?

17" Weld RT-s 71's with Black Centers should be here around May 7th.

Fronts 24.8lbs & 24.6lbs
Rears 33.8lbs & 33.7lbs

Wheels showed up today! (May 6th) Mocked up for wheel weights. ONLY 7/32" of clearance between caliper and wheel barrel on the front and rears. Plan on mounting tomorrow with low profile wheel weights if all goes well.

Front as shown 16.0 lbs on both floor scale and hanging scale.
Rear was weighed with hanging scale at 20lb 13oz

Mounted Rears with weights 55lb 9oz 26lbs pressure
Mounted Fronts with weights 41lb 9oz 50lbs pressure

Mounted Heights
Front-27 3/4"
Rear- 27 1/2"

Front Splitter is 1/4" higher

05-18-14 UPDATED!! Some tips and tricks to keep in mind with this set-up

Make sure and tie the emergency cable back to the upper control arm with a heavy duty zip tie. (some say it will rub, others don't. easy and simple fix) I wasn't willing to take the chance and ruin a cable cover or scratch the inside of a wheel...

Also, I went ahead and clearance'd my lower sway bar bolt head for good measure. Didn't want to take a chance on a hard launch.

The wheel weight locations are critical. The front have to be inside the wheel closest to the wheel lip. Either use low profile weights or 1/4oz weights (what I used) they are just under 5/32 tall.

The rear wheel weight location on the ZL1 (ss may be the same?) from the inside wheel lip needs to be 2 3/4" in towards the outside of wheel so it doesn't rub on the lower control arm bolt or washer.

All this sounds like a pita, but its not bad. just pay attention to these and it will work just fine.

I'm surprised more people aren't responding to this post. This really looks good. Looks like mega traction.

Ya Its a different look. probably not for most, but I like them. Got to try them out for a short bit today. Hooked really well. Tried a couple take offs in first rolling. no spinning and without heat.. at around 730rwhp and 690 rwtq I think its great. a little stickier than the 20" MT's

These are on my list of future upgrades. Any interference with your lower control arms? I'd be interested to see if there's any rubbing on a hard launch.

So far no rubbing.. have checked numerous times. Also, just for good measure I tied the emergency brake cable back and also ground down the sway bar bolt head some on the edge that was closest to the barrel of the wheel. No issues there and don't think there will be.

Are the mt street tires really good on the streets? I like the look of them don't know if they really are a good street tire vs track? Not the skinnys I know those ate all track lol. But yes car looks awesome would love to have a similar looking combo but for street driving not everyday but weekend and shows

I think the MT 20" ET streets are fine for driving I love mine and they hook well. Feel a little stiffer than the 17's, then again the stock GY's feel a littler stiffer than the 20" MT's.. My front skinnies (MT sportsman 28" radials) do have a limit on corners, but honestly I had to drive harder than normal to get them to push. REALLY happy with how they perform on the corners.

Good luck to all Sorry for so many pics, but it seems like there aren't very many Z's on the 17" welds to look at pics.. at least that I've found

Just get the 15" rear please!! I like the look of those even better with a big fat rear tire! But, not an option for me on the zl1's
