2010 V6 auto Swapped to a 2011 V8 LS3 Manual

Good Morning All,

If your probably reading this. i know what your proabbly thinking........" Oh no not another one...." Thankfully i have common sense and this is not my own Camaro, but actually a customer of mine. He has put so much money into this swap, and included a supercharger in it, that hes almost at the point where he could have bought a brand new SS. But thats my 2 cents.... onto the one problem we are having.

The guy is almost done with the swap, he has everything in, engine, tranny, diff, gears, driveshaft, suspension, etc. The last thing he is having an issue with is the clutch pedal and the body harness. Remember this was originally a V6 auto and now hes putting in this Clutch pedal in. The original body harness does not have a connection to connect to the new pedal.

My question is, does anyone know if the 2011 V8 body harness is compatible with a 2010 body. I asked GM already about this, and their computer system shows 2 different part #s, but cant tell whats different about them. We even played around with the idea of splicing in the clutch pedal sensor pigtail to the harness, but the tech is having difficulties getting 5volts out.

Im running out of ideas here and have searched all over the web, im hoping the experts here on Camaro5 can help me........

I haven't ever monitored the clutch position signal, but it's not a high/low signal. It should be an analog signal that could be anywhere between 0-5 volts. At least this is how I understand it. It's the only reason that we have to put a comparator on there for running a 2-step. I don't know if that helps or not, but I would think the easiest way to beat the problem would be to splice it in like you're talking about.

Thanks for the info thehemp, but for some reason the mechanic is having a problem getting a 5v signal. My boss wants me to order the body harness for VIN# of the engine and transmission, but before i do. im trying to figure what would be different from the 2010 v6 auto harness.

Does anybody have any experience with this?

I dont think so. Hes in the Caribbean. I can see if he kept any logs and pictures of his progress. I know theres a bunch of ppl who were curious about for a loooooooong time now, and i havent seen any success stories yet.

Like i said in the original post, we replaced almost everything on here, and have the new stuff mounted, just stuck on this clutch pedal.....

ECM pinout

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48639

Check page 7 on this PDF for the CPS connector pinout.

https://www.lingenfelter.com/sites/l...tch%20v1.7.pdf

You should just need +5v reference, analog out to the ECM X1 pin 26, and GND.

I did something very similar (not with my 5th gen). What you should have done was bought a full dash and body harness from a wrecked ss ls3 from the same year and option package as your donor car and swapped harnesses. This would require the entire inside being gutted but is so worth it. We had absolutely zero issues because everything was switched just like it was a factory V8 car.

Granted he hasn't fired it up yet and could very well run into more issues, but if it were me I'd still run a single 3 pin connector to the ECM before I'd gut the whole interior and swap dashes. With the way I do things I'd end up with 3/4 of the wiring redone before I caved and replaced the dash and body harness haha.

Hey Guys. sorry is been a while since i updated this. I had a couple of people PM me on how this swap it doing, and are dying to see car run. As of right now, we have not been able to start the engine. Heres what we have done since my last update.

The customer went ahead and order a brand new instrument panel harnes(the one that goes behind the dash) and plugged up all the pin connectors. Everything plugged up fine, but now hes running into an issue with his key. When he turns the car on with his original key, he gets a code saying Unprogrammed key detected. So we figured the next step was to get him a new key and program it.

We sent him down the new key and he had his mechanic try and program it. As of right now, this is not successful. The Camaro requires the car to start in order to program any new Fobs, which we are having problems with in the first place. I must also add that the new FOB trunk button works, and the unlock/lock turns the lights on, but does not control the locks on the car. Also when he turns the key in the ignition, a light with a car and a lock comes up in the RPM gauge.

This swap has become a nightmare...... a nightmare i knew would happen. Any one have any clue how to get the key programmed without starting the car? Or any other ideas i can check out.

GM dealer would be my first thought. I always thought they had to program the keys to the car. Never had it done though.

Do they have an MDI scan tool and have the modules all been linked up yet?

Hey guys, just wanted to update you on the latest events that happened this past week.

So last time i posted, we had sent down the instrument panel harness, and a brand new to my customer. He couldn't get the key programmed because it involves actually starting the motor to do it. We figured out what the light on the gauge was for ( car with lock ). This is for the anti theft mechanism. This light comes up when the computer believes the car is being messed with and an attempted theft is in process.

The car will start only with the correctly programmed key, so since the ECM came with the engine, its programmed for the originally key that the engine was with. With this dilemma, we decided to send my customer a brand new unprogrammed BCU and anti theft key module. The plan is to get these pieces in sync with the engine ECM, hopefully solving our problem. ( I think this solution was stated last week by Kelly@PCMofNC )

My customer should be receiving the parts today, so i will update his progress once he lets me know how it went.
