After market alarm system

I'm looking to beef up security on my car. I know they say if someone really wants to steal it then it's gone but anyone have any experience having both LoJack and viper alarm installed on their car? Or maybe at least one? I'm looking to add both just wanted to see if anyone has any experience with either. Any help would be appreciated thanks.

Don't bother with Lojack. By the time you report the theft to the police fill out the police report and they activate the Lojack unit, the car will be stripped.

Best bet is an aftermarket alarm with spread spectrum technology on the transmitter to prevent code grabbing, a good shock sensor and a motion sensor. Most higher end systems also have a passive starter kill that can't be overridden even if they find the alarm module. It can also activate the factory alarm at the same time, so now the thief has to get through two systems, one of which he has no idea what it is.

With an aftermarket system, thief overrides factory alarm, but not aftermarket, so as soon as he opens the door, the alarm goes off. The last thing he wants is to be next to a car with an open door and an alarm going off. Even if he continues, the car will not start no matter what module or other thing they are doing to start the car and drive off.

Look for systems by Clifford or Viper both made by Directed Electronics....they have the features you want including a remote that will tell you if your car is being tampered with.

Instead of LoJack, I'm thinking of just adding a low end smartphone to my family plan and using an app to track it. Even Android device manager works pretty well at accurately finding the phone within a few meters. Then if my car gets stolen, I gather a few friends with some pipes, pliers and blow torches and go get my car back.

Then I wont have to rely on the police to get my car back. I'll give them a call from one of the thieves cell phones once I take my car back from them. Then I'll let them know where the chop shop is and who the tied up people are that got their asses handed to them.

I'm looking for this as well. What's a price range for a "good" security system?

Proper install makes the alarm too. Suggest an authorized installer for whatever brand you get.

to keep the warranty on a viper or python you have to have it installed by a authorized dealer. i paid $4?? installed for my 2 way python alarm remote start system. at the time it was the best system available by Directed Electronics .
