Carbon fiber and winter time
I have a carbon fiber hood and trunk on my V6 and was wondering how do these products react in cold temperatures? Anyone else keep their carbon fiber parts on throughout the winters?
The hood is the VIS Terminator and the trunk lid is Seibon. My biggest concern is cracks and all from the freezing temperatures. Lowest we get here is about -8 C. |

Don't know much about carbon fiber but if your afraid that it might get damaged put the stock parts back on for the winter until it warms up, better safe than sorry.

Well crap, I don't have the replacement parts anymore. Basically modded and ditched the old parts. Now I am kind of worried regarding this weather. Maybe I will just park underground from now on to make it safer and all.
That is definetly what I am afraid of happening...don't want any of them cracking... I have read on other car forums while doing research that people just leave their parts on all winter...but I am still worrying. |

I have the same hood on my 13 Camaro and it cracked over the winter. Shop quoted me 1500 to fix it so I did it my self! Be careful the gel coating on the VIS hoods are really thick and unstable, that is why they tend to crack easier.

I think you will be 100% Fine. Do you park it in a garage? Even if the garage is not heated it is out of the elements for the most part. That seems to make a huge difference.

Always had problems with vis. I would stick with seibon they seem to have better quality and quality control.

As mentioned on the other thread, make sure you install the heat shield underneath or its sure to crack with extreme varying temperatures (the cold and your hot engine).

Correct... you would trim the stock one or get creative.
I've got vents and obviously do not want to cover them with the heat shield. Just the center area. |
