Just want tires that will stick

I've been reading a lot but I still struggle with a simple idea about traction.

I hate my stock ZL1 tires, they aren't sticky at all.

I have a set of 285 sottozero's I use in the winter time (no rain or snow) and the acceleration with these is incredible.

I want a tire that gives me the same in the summer.

I've search and I see the Toyo R888's are supposed to be good for acceleration but when I see a tire that is basically bald, I just think it will spin. There is nothing to grip the ground with. My Sottozeros have all kinds of grooves that grip the ground.

I do not care about speed, ride comfort, noise, wear, or rain etc. I just want a tire that will perform off the start.

Any suggestions?

I'm really impress with the amount of grip I'm getting from the stock P-Zeros on my SS.

I am running Toyo R888 and I love them. night and day difference over goodyears. You will have no traction issues if you get these tires I have 650RWHP and I have to try and spin the tires now good luck

Thank you ...

I guess I should mention I want the tires to stay on the stock ZL1 rims too.

Mikes-ZL1 : have you tried other tires to compare them against? They do sound awesome, so I'm happy to hear a zl1 owner say this.

I switched over to the Michelin Pilot Super Sport:

245/40/20
275/35/20

IMHO, they maintained their grip much longer than the Goodyears and the tirewear is much better. With the Goodyears, I was replacing them every 12,000 miles because I lost so much grip.

Grooves don't grip, rubber on the ground does. Grooves are for bad weather and rain, not traction. There is a reason a slick is a slick. R888s are amazing tires. Best tire made if you don't want to give up handling. Otherwise check out the ET streets or NT05Rs.

Are you running the stock 11" rim for the rear? If so, what size are your Toyo R888's? The ET streets come in 305/35/20 and the NT05R come in 315/35/20 but the Toyo R888's show 315/30/20.
Not sure what the middle number indicates and if it makes a difference being 5 less than the MT ET's an NT05R's.

Edited to add that I searched and the middle number represents the sidewall height. 35 = 35%
The measurement is the tire's section height, and also referred to as the tire's series, profile or aspect ratio. The higher the number, the taller the sidewall; the lower the number, the lower the sidewall. The 35 indicates that the sidewall distance, from the wheel rim to the outside of the tread, is 35% of the section width.

I've always been taught this as well but that can't explain why my sottozero winter tires give me almost double the grip than my stock good years that should have more surface area to stick.

I cant compare to a slick as they are deflated and soft for racing only.

Generally speaking, I want a street tire that is sticky as hell and my winters are the only ones that fair up to the task.

Tread compound plays into this also. The surface area isn't the only factor for traction. Softer tires = better traction.

I'm running the Michelins PSS, 315s/295s and traction on them are night and day compared to the GYs as far a street driving. Now track, I will have a different set up.
