Question Is the shipping delay a market strategy?

Is GM strategically waiting to flood the market with produced cars? This may be conspiracy theorist of me, but I am starting to think this is Mustang sales war related. The timing for shipment is all out of whack. I could have walked from MI to KY by now, but they can't get a car here? I don't believe it. There is a reason behind this wait, and I don't think it's QC. I think it's about making a huge market impression when they open the flood gates.

Also, I could be completely off base with this theory.

I doubt they would flood the market all at once as it could have a negative impact on the dealer. A dealer with 2 camaros on the lot and the next nearest dealer is about 50 miles away has the ability to charge sticker and stand firm. A dealer with 15 camaros in stock with a dealer 5 miles away with 10 in stock will have to negotiate to get the sale. I would bet dealers would be pretty upset with that strategy.

Also you have to think about the availability of rail cars to ship the vehicles would play a huge part in the delay.

My car won't come by rail. It has been sitting at 4300 for a while for what should be a 6-8hr drive.

I maintain it is a QC issue. Something Chevy will always deny, but to much too think otherwise.

As for railcars, I see the autoracks in groups of fifty to a hundred. When I used to take the Mt. Elliot overpass as a short cut I could look down on the rail yard and see hundreds of autoracks. Yes, they are in somewhat short supply, but not this short. And the ones scattered around this area were all hauled by truck.

Unless they are waiting for tomorrow and the last gen 5 to roll off the line. So much for mid November. We are heading into the end of November, plus a snow storm this weekend up in Michigan. It's all good Tomorrow is Friday

I saw about 75-100 rail cars in Bergen NJ this week just sitting there outside of NYC empty. Maybe they are waiting for imports coming in to Port of Newark?? But I doubt there is that big of a shortage.

The entire release makes no sense marketing wise. You release and RWD sports coupe that will for the most part be equipped with summer only tires at the beginning of winter. Smart move, you have just eliminated 1/2 of the country.

The debut should have been in Oct-Nov of 14, with cars flooding the lots at the beginning of the summer of 15.

Isnt the hole reason they had to redesign the Camaro again is because they lost their chassis supplier from Austraila I think I read. The release being so late in the year probably has more to do with the timming of loosing the old chassis. Not that that has anything to do with why they dont seem to be shipping very many right now.

IMO all the cars are siting in QC lots, and we will see them ship out over the next 2-6 weeks.

If I were to hazard a guess, I would say your car IS coming by rail.
KY is too far away from Detroit for hauler delivery.

Lexington is definitely within truck hauler range. The Saturday snow will be followed by rain and 40*+ degree temps. Waiting for a normal late summer release would have meant July or August 2016.

What I don't understand is that there are already ~30 cars in a 40 mile radius around me yet I'm still waiting for the one I pre-ordered. There is one that is exactly optioned as mine but has a different color/wheel combo - I'm tempted to go check it out.

Are they actually at the dealer and do not depend on a salesperson's word.

I remember on the Sonic board a member saying a dealer has several turbo MT Sonics in stock and his order still not shipped. He called and was told yes the builds were actually there so he drove the 50+ miles only to learn not only were they not there but the sales staff thought he should buy one of the Cruzes they had on hand as that was a much better car for him.

No he did not buy a Cruze and yes he was a little bit peeved, probably more with himself but a fair amount at the dealer.
