ZL1 factory clutch issues

I recently purchased a 2014 ZL1 with 15,000 miles. Probably around 600rwhp at the moment. I noticed during a couple pulls last weekend that in 4th gear at high rpm's there was repeated slight hesitation, and what smelled like burning clutch. Do the factory clutches really go bad at the 600whp range? I realize the previous owner could be the issue......

You would think a twin disk could handle more HP than that......any help would be appreciated guys. Thank you

2.55 upper pulley, cai, stainless works 3 inch headers, 1000cc injectors, ron davis heat exchanger, NGK tr7ix plugs gapped at .32. Those are my mods......haven't had the car on the dyno yet, but I'm assuming I'm somewhere around the 600whp mark.

I am at 700 RWHP and never had an issue with the clutch.

They are great, but I slipped mine once at the track and it's been downhill every since. I did change out the fluid and a bunch of downshifts brought it back, but it has never been the same. Anytime it gets hot it slips. Will change it over winter and I expect to see the flywheel scuffed with material. Previous owner maybe did the same on yours?

Zero problems with mine until I started No Lift Shifting then it slips just a bit on my 3-4 shift while racing. But mine goes away if I am hard on the clutch so I try not to baby it.. Try Driving it like you stole it!!

Smoked mine quickly launching on street tires, slipping it to get out of the hole.

I think the GTO clutch reservoir helps preserve clutch life by letting you keep the fluid clean. I had at least several hundred runs on a stock LS3 clutch on a TT 1LE on drag radials. A twin disk is better (Stay away from Centerforce) at holding big power but very difficult to launch.

Just burned up My clutch. I put Mickey Thompson ss on and they stick like glue, Then tried launch control mode 5 and the revs hit 6k and there was an awful smell. Not tire smoke. My car has 21K and alot of nolift shifting and using launch control plus 10% pulley and tune. Got home and ordered a new one. Plan on replacing it Myself . Bummer.

Driving habits/behavior are a huge factor in clutch life. It doesn't take long for someone to smoke the clutch if they are slipping it (intentionally or otherwise).

If there is a problem, get in there and fix it.

Hopefully my link to this thread works and helps. Bottom line, hard to say what the previous owner may have done, but I do believe there are issues with the clutch system at high RPM shifts and launches. Experts across the nation have pointed their fingers at just about everything to include: the actual OEM and some after market clutches, installing a heavier pedal return spring, master cylinder, GM using brake line AN fittings and lines instead of the larger AN fittings and lines normally used for clutch lines, and the brake and clutch systems sharing the same reservoir. I personally think its all of the above plus then we go add more hp to a heavy car with big fat sticky tires, something has to give, right? I guess its good that it is the clutch that is giving out. Read the below thread and then do a search and you will find many discussions and many recommendations as to what clutch to replace it with and/or any mods to the system to improve performance so you aren't replacing it again. I've gone through a few clutches until I got the triple disk, along with lots of other changes in the clutch system.
