2013 SS, AC compressor dead

This happened to me over the week-end, belt broke off due to AC compressor locking up.

Dealer wants 1000K to replace (recharge system, belt, etc..).

Does anyone know the part # for the compressor? Been looking with no luck. Maybe I can find one cheaper and install myself, if not, at least buy the part and have someone install cheaper.

Thank you,

E.

A million bucks seems like a lot to replace an AC compressor. $1k is about what most typically run for a new compressor and installation. Check a couple of local junk yards if you're wanting to save some bucks, or just check a local parts store. They will know what the part is if you tell them the year, make, model, and engine of your vehicle.

I would try and locate the part by other means than the dealer. Second i wouldnt let the dealer install or recharge it. If you cant install in yourself then find a reputable shop that specializes in ac work and let them do it. More than likely be way cheaper and probably better service than the dealer would give.

Often see them for about $250, OEM brand new factory compressor.

Make sure you have whom ever is going to do the work flush the whole system otherwise you'll kill the new compressor...

I have a 2010 1SS w/o RS and had mine replaced in March. Had about 43k miles on it. Luckily it was under warranty.
