TPMS might be bad?
Okay. So, today I go to drive my car and I get a TPMS light and it says the right front is only at 19 PSI. All the others are at 29. I drive it, and it doesn't pull one way or they other. Could this be a faulty sensor? Anything else I should try?

I would check the tire pressure and not expect it to pull one way or the other.

I just did a relearn. Didn't do anything like check the tire pressures or add/remove air. Just let it set there, and voila! Back to normal. Weird

Well..... to it back out and it's on again. Could my sensor be going bad? Can I reset it?

Sensor COULD be going bad, iirc, they have batteries in them that die eventually (if i'm wrong, somebody please correct me.)
But, check the actual tire pressure with a gauge. If the pressure is not what the DIC is telling you, then it's probably a sensor going bad. |

Yep. Sounds like the sensor is crapping out. I would definitely manually check the pressures when you get a low pressure light.

How hard are they to swap out? Do I have to take it to a tire shop, or can this be done by myself? Sorry, new to the whole TPMS thing

Did you check the pressure as asked already? Had the same with the cooler weather and it was a slight pressure adjustment needed..

I can check tomorrow. For the life of me I can't find my pressure gauge. Also, it has hydrogen? Whatever they put in with the green valve stems. So, it shouldn't have went down 10 PSI over night.

How did you do the "relearn" without letting air out of the tires individually?? Did you ever think that your tire has a puncture of some sort?

I don't think I did it correctly. I just did it with DIC and went to relearn and sat there for a minute. Then it went away and all 4 were back to normal pressure.

Your TPMS have 5 year batteries, so expect 5-7 years of life.
Shop on the 'net for new ones. The tires have to be broken down to replace them, so I see a tire shop in your future. P.S. Your tires should be 36psi cold.

Did you actually check the tire pressure to see of it was low ? When you do a relearn on your car you need to let at least 5 psi out of each tire so that the car beeps at each tire as you let the air out after you hit the rest button .Or you need the relearn tool . Good luck

All gasses lose pressure at the same rate, about 1 psi per 10 deg F. It's called the ideal gas law, as per your general science class in the 7th grade. Also, the green cap means you have nitrogen in your tires. Hydrogen is highly flammable. Nitrogen in your tires means either you or previous owner fell for a scam aimed at people who don't know the ideal gas law. And by the way, chances are, if one of your tires is down, you have a nail in it. The only good thing about the nitrogen fill is that the bottled nitrogen has very little moisture in it. This does affect tire pressure if you are a racer and the air in your tires reaches 212 F. That's not gonna happen in every day driving. PS: your cold tire pressure should be around 36 lbs. It's at 29 'cause you didn't put more air in when the weather got cold. |
