Battery Dead Beep and Lights Flash When Try to Recharge

I don't drive my Camaro in the winter and shelter in place kept me from driving at all for a couple of months. Now , back to work but driving another car. To make it worse, I have a trickle charger, but have read that it should be installed via the trunk and this seemed to be a bit of a pain.

So, battery dead on my 2017 ZL1. After reading a few posts, I hooked a charger to the engine bay + terminal and ground. Charger gauge goes far right.. a few seconds later short honk and headlights flash and charge gauge goes far left.. I unplug it and here I am.

Can anyone guess what is going on here? Battery access might be one of two negatives on this car. The other one is the thin steering wheel.

Thanks in advance...

When you store a car for winter, you completely disconnect the battery, and put
it on a trickle charger.

The honk and light is when the battery gets enough power for VATS.
Then, doing it drains the battery again.

I have a charger that has a "Jump Start" setting that plows 100 AMPS into
the battery so I Can start the car. THEN you let the alternator charge the
battery from there.

You should always charge right on the battery terminals. The engine compartment
post is a jump-start post. Trickle charger needs to be right on the battery posts
as well. You can install a connector that will hang out the RH side tail light cover,
for plugging the trickle charger into.

Make the wires longer, and run them out from under the RH tail light cover. I ran my
external rear LEDs that way.

When that pig-tail is not in use, then you put it under the cover. Then next winter,
pull it back out. Those covers will flex more than needed for that.

Pull the battery, put it on the charger, not a trickle one, a real charger for 8 hours,
or until the charger says it's done.

Taking the battery out or needing to connect directly in the trunk is utter nonsense. The battery tender can be connected to the terminals in the engine bay. I've been doing this for winter storage since 2010, and so have many others in this forum. I kept my original battery for 7 years and then replaced it out of an abundance of caution.

Furthermore, if you take the battery out of the car, you will kill the emergency On Star battery.
