What color to paint the scoop
I've been learning to paint so I could fix some damage to my ground effects. My first attempt, on my engine cover and related items, went okayish:
And learning from that my ground effects came out pretty nice. Here's a before and an after, though it's hard to really see how substantial the difference is from the photo: Still need a little polish in the crevices, but I ran out of time. That can easily be done next week though. Since the plasti-dip stripes I had on the ground effects previously got beat to heck, and never really felt 'right' when I washed the car, I decided to go ahead and paint them instead of replastidipping. It came out looking so good I'm thinking of tearing off the vinyl stripes on the front bumper and hood and painting those. They have a lot of stone tears anyway, and the vinyl doesn't shine up anything like my painted stripes do. And since I'd be doing some painting in the area anyway, I was thinking of painting the hood scoop as well. The question is: what color do I paint it? I thought I'd solicit some suggestions from here. The two options I'm primarily considering are: - Black metallic to match the stripes - Yellow to match the hood I'm also open to more creative suggestions, like black for the scoop but yellow for the grates, or continuing the stripes through the scoop but my skill is still limited and I think anything too involved is going to come out awful. I tried to paint the embossed text on my engine cover an accent color and it looks like a 5 year old did it. So I'm hesitant to try anything other than straight lines that I can create with painter's tape. If anyone else has painted their hood scoop, I'd love to see some photos to help me visualize the end result. Last edited by nbostaph; 05-20-2021 at 03:14 PM. Reason: Fixing photo links |

Hmmm, none of your pics are working for me. I just get a big gray - sign.

Man I think you did a great job!! Looks pretty good. A pic of your hood and what you are thinking about doing would help.

Thanks!

I would be keeping the stripes exactly as they are. The hood scoop color would be the variable. |

Love yellow!
I’d ditch the plastic engine cover. Just holds heat on the block. |

Wow she looks really nice!! Me, I would leave the center vent just the way it is now. If you painted it yellow in the black stripes, I think it would be too much. It looks fine in my book..

Is it me or does the stripes on the front bumper look offset from the ones on the hood. The space between the stripes on the ground effects looks wider then the rest. Maybe it's the angle the pic was taken on.

To be subtle you could run the center yellow stripe through the scoop or paint the scoop just one or two shades off the black to get it to pop a little.

Thanks for the great feedback, all. And sorry for the late response; was out of town visiting family.
At this point I'm tempted to paint it yellow and see how it looks, with plans to repaint it black if it's too over the top, but I'm still rolling it around in my mind. I'll try to remember to post some pics when it's done.

Leave the scoop black. Yellow or other variations would look odd to me.
