Footwell Lighting...How would YOU wire it?

I received my footwell lighting kit this past week and am curious what the best way to wire it would be? I could tap into the dome light wire and have it go off with the dome light, or, I could wire it up to the dash lighting and have it on all the time the car is running. How do YOU guys have it wired???

I have mine wired to a separate switch that I put on the side of my center console. I used the PowerPoint wire at the fuse box for power so it only gets power with the switch on.

Not sure where you got your lighting from but, instructions I got with mine was to tap in on a wire behind the passenger side dash panel.

Video of installation.
Footwell lighting installation.

I bought mine through RPI. I'm just wondering if I hook it up so it is always on during driving if it would be too much? Oh, and I got the blue lights.

So, to be more specific, this is what I am thinking of doing, if possible. I would like for the footwells to come on when I open the door. Also, I would like the footwells to come on when the lights come on in the auto position. Is this possible? I am guessing that I would hook it up to the sidemarker lights?

I wasn't sure how I would feel about having the footwells light up, so I have mine tapped into a constant power so I can manually control them via a switch.

If your car came with ambient lighting, you could probably tap into that so they come on with the door panels.

Or...if you want to go with a plug and play method, check out this harness:

The vid I linked to does exactly what you are asking, if I’m understanding you correctly.

Thanks for the info! I have but one question for you. Do you ever turn them on when you are driving at night?

I don't think I have driven my car at night since installing them...I'm usually home before the sun sets. However, my garage doesn't have any windows so I just snapped a few photos to give you an idea.

The first two pics are with the ignition on, but no exterior lights. The third picture is with the parking lights on (which include the "orange" halos and "green" demon eyes). The next two I took from the outside...just note that my windows are tinted 20%. The last picture is with the footwells off but the ignition was still on (it was too dark for my camera so it had to use the flash).

Overall, I could see fine out all the windows, but any privacy would be out the window (no pun intended)

Question for you Ostones: When you hook it up this way and you manually turn on the domelight via the overhead console, will the footwells light up with the domelight?

I’ll check. I know it comes on when you open the door and goes off nice and slow with all the other interior lighting. Its under cover in the garage for the winter but, when I get a chance, Ill take a look see.
