Catback vs Axleback exhaust

I think that I know the difference between the catback vs the axleback exhaust, but I was wondering if you were to compare the catback and the axelback from the same manufacturer would one sound deeper than the other and would there be a noticable difference in performance?

axle back isn't gonna get you much (if any) gains...basically just for better sound (and better looks).

Cat-backs will have an X-pipe (some have H)...that's where most of the gains come from. Will add some HP and better throttle response.

going to be a lot less noticeable difference on a V6 though...

Sure, but I'm sure there is a noticeable difference though.

I must say...going on a dyno sheet and from what some forum members have said, the flowmaster axle-backs really do seem to give a decent performance increase.

If I was all about performance and less about sound, I would have made them my choice, but don't think I'll be going with those.

Anyways, just thinking that yes an axle-back can indeed give you a performance increase. Their dyno sheet seems to show better performance than some full cat-backs I've seen...doesn't seem right, but again just going off what Ive seen here.

well... as posted else where, I treat all manufacturers dyno sheets as works of fiction, until proven other wise... LOL

From what I can tell by listen to the various clips, the catback with the perferated X-pipe seems to have a nicer sound when compaired to just the axleback system. That's my main reason for choosing the more expensive upgrade, I want the best sound I can get for my V6, if I get a little better performace as well, thats a bonus.

KFH....that's what i was thinking also. I'm looking to get the best sound from the v6 that I can. Did you have the catback installed? If so which one and how do you like it?

I'm waiting a few more weeks before I do the upgrade, but at this point it looks like I'll be going with the Magnaflow catback.

Rather than post an entirely new thread this seems like an OK place to ask this, scrming maybe you could chime in on this. Anyways, I have MRT V1 axle back, love the sound and look of it! I have a custom muffler shop right down the road that will build stuff for you. I was thinking of having them making something for me to go from the cats to the axle. Would there be any point in doing this? Any possible gains? Also would the sound change much? Just trying to figure out if it is worth doing or not.
