Tried out the launch control....
AWESOME!!!!!!!
BUT......when I let off the clutch there was a fairly loud thunk from the rear, is that normal? It also seemed like there was a bit of delay between letting the clutch out and the car doing anything. The only thing I could figure was maybe I let off the clutch too quick. I drove it about 50 miles after that and everything seemed normal, but it got me a little worried.

dont know about the noise? I heard your suppose to let up on the clutch fast from what i read on another persons thread on here, they might of even had a video tagged to the thread too. ive never tried it, but the reason im posting is in my owners manual it said competitive mode (v8) ? im wondering if the v6 has this competitive mode/launch control?

Grab your owners manual! I doubt it would have it though. Its gonna be cool when tuning is readily available to the v6 guys. I would like to see some FI/stroked v6's! I bet that little bugger would make a MEAN 4.0 stroker if it is possible.

I've used the launch control....mat the gas and let out the clutch as fast as you can. You don't want to release it slow,as slipping the clutch defeats the purpose of the launch control....
I haven't notice a clunk..but when you shock the driveline like that there is alot going on,having done it for years in many different cars I'm used to those sounds,so what you may here as a clunk I might not eve notice(if it is a normal sound). Next time try preloading the drivetrain. When you stop, pull up the e-brake a little and ease out on the clutch until it tries to pull a little, then push in the clutch, realease the e-brake...then try your launch. That will take most of the slack out of the drivetrain.

I get a small clunk in every gear, that seems normal to me, but this one was louder than those. I'll try have to try what HIGHOCTANE suggested next time....

I want to try out the launch control, but everything about it tells me that I shouldn't do it (even after reading threads, owners manual, and watching videos). Mr. Toast is a skeerdy cat.

Go for it! For a monster, its quite tame beast. Just tried mine yesterday after I finally got over 1500 miles. At first I was too shy about matting the gas and it hit the rev limiter. Just punch it to the floor and smoothly dump the clutch. No drama. Just a couple of chirps and keep it pointed straight. No hop or odd noises. Just some smell of burnt rubber. By the time you are maxed in 2nd you will be exceeding most speed limits.
BTW - 3K on the tach and everything off is a blast too! I just quit after a couple of runs since the tires are so expensive and I was on a chip sealed road. I've loved the car from the start, but yesterday just confirmed that it is exactly what I was expecting plus some. |

Nope. No launch control on mine. Think its v-8 only. With traction control on my v-6 auto does an amazing job of giving me max power to the wheels with little or no tire spin. I would almost say the automatic shifts as fast as I could. Perhaps im slow. lol |

I tried it yesterday (before the roads got wet). What a thrill! A little tire slip and a lot of acceleration. I can't wait to try again.
Lazertoast, I don't think, from what I experienced, that it's unsafe or would damage our cars. Just make sure there's no one ahead of you or coming the other way, just in case the tire slip send you into the next lane (mine didn't). It's really quite fun. It's not scary, just exhilarating. |

BTW, I didn't hear any clunks and I didn't get anywhere near redline. I think it peaked at around 4000 rpms, but it happened so fast I can't be sure.

Its the "slop" coming out of the driveline. Mine clucks and clanks all the time, so did my C5 and C6, its the nature of the beast.
I am not overly impressed with LC. Its like launching for dummies. You can do better if you know your car and arent afraid to waste a little clutch and tire! ... with that said, I start out nice and slowwwww. I like the feel from 20 to 60... thats where its at for me! |
