The Dale Jr. spoiler is now available at chevypartsplus and gmpartsdirect. It's $460 at chevyparts and $418 at gmpartsdirect.

I don't see it on gmpartsdirect anymore and chevyparts site is down. Is it no longer available?

on the NLP, did you find a lot of filling and sanding had to be done to the fiberglass before painting like the install instructions say?

LOL not yet, but hopefully I'll be able to order my 2SS soon, so I can have something to put one onto ;)

I picked up the IVS Havoc dovetail at the GM nationals in Carlisle this morning for $300... My question is this.. should I have the dealer paint it for me? Or cheaper elsewhere? The dealer is supposed to be adding white rally stripes for me anyhow, I just haven't been able to drop it off with them. For that matter, I'm no longer sure I even want the rally stripes, now that my rims are powder coated black.

hmmm, pictures not working.. here's a link

It might be a little cheaper at a body shop. If your car is going to the dealer anyway I would price it out with them doing it.

Wow nice pieces but seems awfully expensive for a little strip of fiberglass.

I just got my spoiler in (Carbon By Design) but I'm not quite sure how to mount the bolts onto the spoiler. The stock spoiler already has them mounted and I assumed that is how this spoiler would come. I found the bag with the mounting hardware but there were no installation instructions so I'm not quite sure how to get the bolts into the spoiler.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well I would say unbolt the stock spoiler and if you have more holes for the new one than are in the hatch, or if they are in different locations it's time to bring out the drill. You could probably make a template if you wanted to by taking some cardboard (or any number of other materials), sticking it to the spoiler with double sided tape, cutting it to the proper shape, then putting the holes in it and sticking that down on the car before you do any drilling. Of course set the spoiler on top of the template to be sure its right before the drill ever comes near your deck lid. You could also try what I attempted with my dovetail for my 4th gen, which was to stick squares of double sided tape onto the spoiler over the holes, cut out around the holes, then press the spoiler on the car and carefully lift it off, leaving the tape behind. I didn't have any luck with this technique but others have had it work somehow so it might be worth a shot. I ended up finding a way to use the drill guides the spoiler came with but it doesn't sound like you have those. If you're uncomfortable with any of that I'd recommend taking the car to a shop.

EDIT: just realized how long ago that post was made. Oh well maybe somebody else will find it useful.

Turns out the nuts were molded into the carbon fiber. I'm not sure exactly why it came with a second set of nuts. It came with double sided tape attached to the spoiler. Unfortunately the holes in the spoiler didn't match up with the holes from the stock spoiler very well. I had to drill out a few of them in the deck lid before I could get the bolts through the holes and into the spoiler. Then, on one of the holes, when the screw was about half-way into the spoiler the nut molded into the carbon fiber must have broke loose a bit. I know it wasn't cross threaded and I know I had not overtightened it as the bolt was only about half way into the spoiler.

Aside from those issues it went okay and I really like the look of it. I understand that some don't really care for carbon fiber, or this style of the spoiler but I really love it and it gives it that '69 look I was going for, IMO.

I have a LS camaro and don't really want to drill holes into the trunk lid. is that 3M tape strong enough to hold these spoilers on or is drilling the only way to go?

Primus 07-05-2010 01:18 PM

It's possible that it's strong enough to hold it on but I would just drill if I were you. Drilling it out isn't really all that bad. Just use some rust prohibiter after drilling.

anybody put this on and have an actual picture? I know there are concept pictures or renditions but I would like to see a NO BS picture on somebodys car.

Primus 07-07-2010 09:01 AM

If I had seen that before I bought my Carbon By Design one I would have but it wasn't available then :(

Edge.128 07-07-2010 04:56 PM

ya i'll just drill it but i was just curious what you guys thought... thanks :)
