Questions about muffler delete and x-pipe?

Hi, Just a few questions.

1.) What was the total cost for those of you who have had it done?
2.) Are you happy with the results?
3.) What is the legality of not having a muffler?
4.) Will it pass emissions?

Some people take it to local exhaust shops and have em do it for anywhere between $100 and $300 bucks from what I've read. There are prolly those who have paid more or less depending on where they went I reckon.

There are also muffler delete catbacks and axleback kits available for people in the Marketplace here on Camaro5.com

Most everyone is happy that I know. They totally change the sound of the car.

Because of that LOUDER sound, some local authorities might not like it. And as with changing or modifying ANY exhaust equipment on any federally regulated vehicle, it could be considered illegal by certain authorites.

With that said, I haven't heard of anybody getting ticketed over it.

It will pass emissions since you are not affecting the actual emmissions of the vehicles engine. You are impacting the sound of the vehicle which is controlled by the mufflers.

Best of luck and let us know how it turns out.

The mufflers are overkill if you keep the OEM cats onboard. I'm betting you'll like the x-pipe, muffler delete setup.

thanks Ivan, that helps a lot. I am just looking to get the best possible setup for the least amount possible. Looking at aftermarket exhaust systems looks like at least a $1000 project with install, which is just too much for a poor college student :chevy:

Just to clarify, are you saying I should just swap the h pipe for the x pipe and leave the stock mufflers?

Best 90$ Iv spent. Sounds just as good as most performance mufflers imo, I can hear ppl talk inside the car goin down the road no prob. Put the radio on low and still hear it no prob. And if you want louder you can do a res delete and or high flow cat makes it loader Iv been told.

As far as emissions goes, does the resonated x-pipe take the place of the stock resonators? I have been having trouble finding a shop willing to take off the stock resonators. Would it sound crappy if I simply left the stock ones on, got a basic x-pipe, and did a muffler delete?

No. I'm saying loose the mufflers. The OEM cats are so restrictive, you don't need mufflers behind them. Replace the stock resonator/h-pipe with the x-pipe and delete the mufflers altogether.

Ran me $185 for Magnaflow Xpipe, resonator/muffler delete, and was DEF worth it. Will post some vid for you on Monday when I get home ;)

If you remove the mufflers you will have popping out the wassoo. The mufflers have good flow to them. Hi flo cats definitely but leave the stock exhaust. Waste of money for little hp gain. Paint them hi temp black and you'll never see them. You can spend the extra cash on something else.

ummm, no.
