Just absolutely ridiculous

Per my tuner,

On an L99 car with a power adder, bolt on's and torque converter, your supposed to use the PADDLE shifter's when going down the dragstrip.
They are adaptive and will lose all that lag they come with from the factory over time.:twitch:

Also by removing 110 lbs of weight from the car, and 36 lbs of rotational weight from the front wheels and driveshaft, you shouldn't get ANY GAIN whatsoever in your ET.

HP tuners here I come.:happy0180:

Paddle shifters are definitely slower on the dragstrip. There is a noticeable lag shifting from the paddles vs the trans shifting for you.

Oh no, according to my tuner (well, used to be my tuner), they are adaptive and once they learn the car they are faster than tuning the 6L80.:smiling1:

Tap shift is not adaptive and that is why it is slower. When a 6l80/6l90 is in normal or sports mode the computer anticipates the oncoming shift and it prefills the clutch packs, when it’s in tap shift it has no way to know when the command to shift is coming so it can’t prepare for the shift. These transmissions are complicated on how they hand off from gear to gear. If your tuner does not understand this, you need a new tuner.

Care to share who the former tuner was, Joe? Might can save me some trouble in the future being a NC guy

Sorry, he pays money to advertise on here, and that is more important than honesty and values.
Still researching for someone who shares the same morals/values as I do.

So if the 6l80/6l190 are so good, why do folks swap to a th400?

People swap because they have exceeded the HP/TQ capabilities of the stock transmission, I'm not even close to that level.
I have no current need for a th400, what I do have need of is a tuner who doesn't tell me lies.

PCM of NC or Heintz Racing if you're trying to stay local.
Pat G does an excellent job of remote tuning.

Several of their previous posts mention RDP, I assume that's who they are referencing.

I contacted both already.

PCM in Mooresville said they have more work than they can do.

I did have a good conversation with Jeff @ Heintz racing, waiting for him to get back with quote for everything I need.

AJARMAN 02-13-2020 03:11 PM

I talked to a guy with a 6th gen at a cars and coffee this past Sunday that had Heintz put in a stage 3 cam and stall and spoke very highly of them and their work. They are on my list to deal with as well.

Only 3 gears to shift, and built they handle power great. Much like old drag racers used a 2 speed power glide, no shift delays if your not shifting. Downside no overdrive, 3rd gear is 1:1 with a 400.

Not what my tuner said, he said they are slower and can't be tuned to be faster. The computer is set to shift at certain RPM's and it knows that and does the job quickly, as the paddles won't. Believe me I tried, you tap the button and notta, then about 200rpms later, shift. And that was on a tuned tranny after the header install and tune.
