400HP LS2 V8 Confirmed?
Surprised I didn't see this here sooner but I thought I would post it; the news is via egmcartech.com
"...Now for those you who are power hungry for a true muscle car, the V8 range-topper should satisfy your needs. According to AutoCar, the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS will likely get GM’S 6.0L LS2 V8 engine that produces 400 horsepower. The original 1967 Camaro SS was powered by a 6.5 liter V8 that produced 375-hp."-Egmcartech.com http://www.egmcartech.com/2008/04/14...red-by-ls2-v8/ |
You didn't see it here because the LS2 was confirmed dead long long long ago. This is inaccurate information. In fact, the 1967 model information is also incorrect I believe. The concept car had an LS2, but it was just the concept.

Who ever wrote that article is going to feel stupid when the Camaro comes out. I'm afraid the Camaro will not have the LS2 Mpower. If I could guess, a modified version of the LS3 or the LSA..
|
Yep no LS2, maybe a detuned version of the LS3........
|
I could live with that.:happyanim:

WOW, it took more time to click the damn smilies than to post my stupid response...

No engines or power numbers have truly been confirmed yet.
|
The LS2 is in the concept. It will not make production.

Exactly right! And also, the LS2 is still being produced by us and we ship some of them to Silao, Mexico. |
^^^^^wow, now that is the way to keep this thread going.
|
^^^très interesting. and in other news, am i the only one who believed it when lutz said 6.0 liter and thus am guessing a tuned up l76? i mean doesn't it have afm and vvt and all????:iono:
|
On that note . . . 3whiterag (or anyone else) do you think you could tell us what the differance between an LS2 and a L76 retuned to 400 hp would be? Because isn't the L76 a direct decendant of the LS2?

Oh man I hate when this stuff happens. Why can't we get some engine bay spy shots that could shed some light on these engine speculations?!

I figured the power was right (as one option) but I didn't think 396 cu in pencils out to 6.5L. I suck at conversions.

really cool

I know Im still new on this site, but I do sell cars at a Chevy dealership and have for 2 years now. The GM product trainer comes once a month and I always try and pry info out of him about the new Camaro. He (indirectly) said it would have the LS2, which I think would make sense. The LS3 is in the 08 vettes and the vettes always have to 1-up the camaro.....which is why I thought they changed the vette motors from 07-08.
I mean dont get me wrong, the LS3 would be killer. That motor is very strong and underrated, and I'm buying the new camaro regardless of which engine it has....but the LS3 in the V8 Camaro would piss a lot of vette buyers off and there has to be some gap between the 2 cars. Otherwise, I wouldn't be able to sell vettes anymore. |

I don't think the LS2 will be in this car at launch from the information I've read. The L76 and even the LS3 make more sense. I don't think 'Vette buyers would get in an uproar because the LS3 is the base 'Vette engine, and when the C5 first came out with the LS1, the '98 F-Body had the same motor (and close to the same power.) The '92 'Vette had an LT1 in it and the '93 F-Body came out with it, when the LT1 was introduced, 'Vette guys still had their LT5, and later LT4; then the C5 guys got their LS6 in '01; C6 guys had their LS2 in '05 and LS7 in '06 (and don't forget that the LS2 was offered in SS-trim Trailblazers, SSR and GTOs) and I don't recall hearing grumblings from the Y-body guys. There is a lot of information here to consider, though just about all of it is speculation. I don't think your trainer has it though. No offense to any trainers here, or to any salesmen, but I think this sort of information (or lack there-of) is the reason many enthusiasts don't find sales people particularly helpful when they come to buy a car. Maybe it's just been the salesmen I've know and delt with (I worked at a dealership for 5.5 years) and so many I knew and spoke to had diarreah of the mouth and didn't know anything. Again, I am NOT trying to make a superlative and am sorry if what I posted is offensive, but it's pretty sad when the salesperson knows less about the product than the consumer. :suicide: |
There is no LS2, it's been already confirmed.
I'm confused why a GM Trainer would indirectly say or think this. It drives me nuts. :mad0259: |
Exactly...
