Has anyone installed the Zl1 upgrade kit offered by GM? If so was it a compete kit? Was there any modifying of the stock k member ? What kind of HP are you putting down & what driving habits and or drag racing have been done with this kit?

I have seen a bunch of cars around dfw are with these. I had the lingenfelter setup in my car. I opted for the gm engineered parts. Zl1 3.73 going in my car. I talked to the gm guys down at c5 fest about the development of the zl1 diff. I was told that they were looking at a 9 inch variation at first. But ended up with the cast iron cased 9.9 inch. Which they had never broke in all the testing on the zl1. Hard to beat this setup. That is why i chose this option myself.

Has anyone did a ZL1 diff swap with a 4l80e. Would like to know what driveshaft you used.

The only thing is the instructions sucked! It was missing a lot off torque specs and it said nothing about a different yoke which was included. You have to use a puller to get it of also. And you have to pull the spindles you can't just swing them out of the way. No modifications needed to fit the diff

Has anyone broken anything on this kit or on a ZL1?

pdiddy 05-08-2014 07:57 PM

I think it's 3700 on parts taxi also I am hoping to get into one of these in the next couple years already have this winters project lined out looking to hear what kind of numbers and abuse these are taking

I have never saw or heard of anyone busting a carrier or an axle. I know a bunch of guys running these in ss cars and zl1's and some legit 9 second 1000+ rwhp cars without a hickup as of yet.
