What you're saying makes sense, to double them up when using the outdoor cover... however... Any cover that's flapping around in the wind is an issue. Rule of thumb when anything touching the paint, lubrication is required. Otherwise scratches happen. So an outdoor cover, when needed is OK, like a race care without windows and it's raining. But IMO, an outdoor cover long term does more harm than good. That material is just chafing the paint over and over again.
