(this is 50 yr old info) I was told any papershell pecan, when you plant it, will revert back to the native tree it was grafted to. Many of the varieties are grafted to a local native species for hardiness, you get the old hardy base with modern papershell fruit. If it's a small pecan, it's likely native, if it's a large papershell fruit it's hybrid. I've never seen a papershell growing in a creek tree line. I'm no horticulturist so you'll hafta google the natives species name, till then we'll call them 'creeks'

If/when it is published, you my friend, will get a signed copy… The publisher at the news paper I need access to for research is no longer affiliated with them, after he offered me access… So I just reached out to the interim… Fingers crossed…

My in laws have 6 or 8 different varieties, all named after Indian tribes… All I know is they are good eat’ in…
