This is also why it did work over 1200 rpm. With the increased rpm of the pump pulley, the thinner fluid would still function.
This is a common problem on early Miatas when running gymkanas. All the turning heats the fluid and the power steering goes out for a second. Not a big deal at all.
OP... the car is fine, you dont need to tell them jack. Return the car and walk away. I cant believe all the holier then thou comments in here.

I don't see this as much different than mashing the gas and doing a burnout. Some have done that with their M6 and the output shaft snapped. Is that abuse ? No, I think this car should be able to handle mashing the gas (stock) without the drive shaft snapping or transmission being left on the ground.
Assuming this was done in a parking lot, away from people then I don't see a big problem with this, and see it much like a burnout. Avis rents these SS's and charges much more than a typical rental exactly because they know guys renting these want to see what they will do. If you are only renting it for looks then rent the V6 and save some money.

.... THANK YOU

The first rule of modding something that's not American is to not try to compete with modded V8 cars that are American. Really, they can run insane power with little investment. It's not even a fair fight.
