Either way, I don't think it was right to treat it like that nor was he the first person to do it, but oh well what's done is done and there are always consequences. A mature person just deals with the consequences.

Not to sound like a dick man just giving my 2 cents about doing the right thing. If everything did magically start working again then congratulations you got lucky this time and hopefully learned a lesson from worrying about it.
Actually already did notify lol. Whichever one rents a Camaro sent email posting the link to thread. People wonder what is wrong with today's society. Situations like this where people don't man up to their mistakes. I done with this thread.

It'll take the rental company about 2 minutes to figure out what was going on if they really want to know. Remember, these cars come with event recorders or "black box" technology.

Oh, and these types of things are NOT what rental cars are for. As someone who travels for business, the rates on rental cars are already crazy and having immature bozos going out and beating on the cars only makes it worse.

I haven't rented a Corvette or Camaro before, but, when I was returning a car to Hertz last week, I asked the Hertz guy a few questions...I was curious how many sets of tires they went through, and he said these cars are made so that you cannot disable traction control. That would certainly be smart, but I'm not sure if that's true. If it is, imagine what it took for this guy to actually get the thing to do donuts!!!

Oh i get it, most people do it so its ok to tell this guy to do it? What if he broke somethiung that belonged to you, or YOUR company, and lied to you about it? Its ok in this situation but not if it was yours right? thats called situational ethics buddy.THAT TYPE OF ETHICS IS A BAD THING. Its ok to lie if it suits this or that purpose right? Its ok to STEAL if the suiituation fits? Your morals are bent, as are quite a few people on here. If you have those type values so be it, but do people a favor and dont try to influance others to make bad choices as your parents obviously did you.

Don't be a boy. It's time to man up. Nobody wants to take responsiblity for their actions anymore. That's a big problem today. I hope that when you lie to them they put two and two together and come up with what you did. And, don't think they can't. Then you will not only be someone that doesn't respect other peoples property , but you'll be a liar too.

Regardless of him doing donuts the power steering shouldn't have gone out.

You guys are all joking right? The guy took a rental out and did a few burnouts... Big deal. Basically he torqued the wheel too far under load, heated up (boiled) the power steering fluid so it thinned out and it didnt work until it cooled. It cooled down and works fine. This is also why it did work over 1200 rpm. With the increased rpm of the pump pulley, the thinner fluid would still function.

This is a common problem on early Miatas when running gymkanas. All the turning heats the fluid and the power steering goes out for a second. Not a big deal at all.

OP... the car is fine, you dont need to tell them jack. Return the car and walk away. I cant believe all the holier then thou comments in here.
