It's purely aesthetic, and the concept car featured the mailslot vent, so they put it on the production car in keeping with their plan to make the production car as much of a carbon-copy of the concept as they could.
I don't remember them claiming anything about air circulation, though....
And I can't help you on the hood attached below. There are a couple companies on the forum I know that are making a similar-styled hood, but I don't remember their names. Sorry.:(
