Readiness checks, yes, they will need time to pass (evap test can bite me, FYI), but otherwise the car should run tip-top right off the bat if everything is where it should be.

correct, WOT is immediate...
I'm talking about normal, part-throttle driving, response, acceleration, etc... the response of the car does get better, as the fuel trims are re-learned and settle in as you put on miles...
