Seems like it would take an awful lot of exposure to some really cold water to create enough temperature gradient to surpass the iron's thermal capabilities. TTI has a bunch of bottom mount systems on the market without issue, I've never seen a cracked housing from some water splashing on it.
Water vaporizes at 212F which makes it very difficult to quickly drop the temp of the housing.
