htp autoworks,
The dealership is my first and most convenient link to GM.

I work in an industry where I routinely replace all mfg defects and even some consumer damaged products depending upon the situation, in order to keep my customers happy & wanting to return to me and spend more money in the future, as well as tell their friends & family to give me their business.

If my dealership wants to keep my future business worth many thousands of dollars, and have me give them good word of mouth advertising, they will fix three small chips on the side, notify GM of yet another incident of this happening nationwide, and do it all with a smile and a handshake.

Your opinion is your opinion. Read the entire thread, there are many others who feel the same way as I AND you've already posted your opinion at post 118 which I've read & obviously disagree with (except for the part about living in a whacko liberal land! Unfortunately, that part is dead solid spot on point!), so there is no need to restate your opinion while singling me out in that restatement. I haven't looked into your post history or user info, but for all I know you may be one of the dealerships who is not giving your customers exceptional service and you are trying to get people to give up addressing this issue so you don't have to deal with it!

This thread is about people having excessive paint chip problems and wanting GM & their dealerships to know about the problem so it can be fixed now & lessened in the future. We want our investments preserved & protected now and the paint to be of a higher quality in the future. If we roll over & just deal with it nothing will be done. If we address the issue in numbers, then the odds are more probable that something could change.

I expect stone chips on the front end & I told my dealer that. I am looking for options for protection of the paint and I have asked them about that but they are of little help because there don't seem to be many options... traditional bra, invisible bra, repaint & never drive...
However, I have never owned, nor have I known anyone who has owned, any car that got stone chips on the sides and that is what I want to join the many others here in making them (dealerships & GM) aware of.
If other models &/or brands are having this same issue then it may go beyond the auto mfgs to the paint chemistry. In that case, by your logic, it wouldn't be GM's problem then either, it would be the company who produces the paint. The only way to know there is a problem is for people to let them know, and that starts at the point of sale.

If Toyota owners would have just been compliant little minions and kept their mouths shut & when their cars brakes didn't work & accelerators stuck, there never would have been a recall.

Thanks to consumers bringing to their attention problems since 1993 with paint peeling, cracking etc, GM already has the following policy:
"GM will repaint vehicles with defective paint for free for six years and unlimited mileage, regardless of whether you bought the vehicle new or used."

If the paint &/or clearcoat they and other manufactures are using is now too soft or not being applied in enough layers, that needs to change but it never will if people don't speak up.

You've given your two cents and I've now handed you your due change. Thank you for shopping, and if you have anything else to add that is not redundant, please address the entire community.

While it doesn't address chips or softness issues.... For anyone who is interested, here is GM's original press release dealing with peeling & cracking which had been in effect since 1993:

Notice they want the problems addressed at the dealers.
Now we just need to get them to admit that the current paint or clear coat is not resistant enough to wear from normal driving conditions, ie: Excessive chipping.

Everyone stick together, speak up & lets get some positive results that will continue to make future GM products better!
