A lightweight Z28 wasn't really much more than wishful thinking from a minority of enthusiasts. I was part of that group and had a plan for a Z28 that might have came in around 3600 lbs. But most wanted a supercharged direct competitor to the GT500. That said, if it performs it performs.

well its better to have a light weight car and add more weight then have a heavy car and then add more. the camaro right now is a fat pig thats all, but if the new z can out perform with increased weight then props on the design
