And and a 911 Turbo from 10 years ago is faster still, it too only has 6 cylinders. Whats your point? Its not as if the V6 Camaro was ever supposed to be the be-all and end-all of Camaro performance.
Engine configuration isn't really a meaningful way to compare 2 cars. I'd go by price and performance, since thats what people actually use to shop with. I can't think of too many people where a V6 (or any other engine) is a selling point in and of itself. They'll want the more efficient engine, or the more powerful one, or the cheaper one, etc. But buying based solely on the number of cylinders and their arrangement? Not so much.
