I understand and for most companies advertising would be a good idea. But with GM's current financial issues, the public perception that GM is just blowing money on advertising meanwhile laying off employees and borrowing money from the government would actually do more harm than good. GM had planned ads for the superbowl but cancelled those plans for this very reason. And although ads for the superbowl are expensive, they are probably the most cost effective ad spots a company can buy.

Ask me a few months ago and I agree. However the car isn't out yet. People would only be annoyed to find out that not only isn't the car on the road but even when they are, they'll have to order and wait a few months to actually get it. The ads will come in due time I'm sure. This thing is extremely high profile. Once people start actually seeing them, I have no doubt that the cars will sell themselves.
